Evaluation of antioxidant status and oxidative stress in sheep experimentally infected with Anaplasma ovis

چکیده مقاله:
Anaplasma ovis infections can cause severe anemia in the acute phase of the disease. In order to investigate the alterations of erythrocyte protective antioxidant mechanisms associated with anemia in sheep experimentally infected with A. ovis, 100 ml heparinized blood was collected from splenectomised sheep that showed 6% A. ovis parasitemia. Inoculums of 20 ml blood were administered intravenously to five male sheep without any blood parasite. Parasitological and haematological changes and the activities of erythrocyte superoxide dismutase (SOD), glutathione peroxidase (GPx) and catalase (CAT) were studied inexperimentally infected animals on the 0-38 post infection days. Parasitemia increased significantly with the progress of infection and reached its maximum level on day 15 of the experiment. From this point to day 38, there was a gradual decline in parasitemia. A significant decrease in PCV, RBC and Hb concentration was evident coincidentally with peak parasitaemia in the infected sheep. On post infection day 15, the activities of all enzymes increased, the changes being significant for SOD activity. There was a significant positive correlation among parasitemia and the activities of erythrocyte SOD (r = 0.644, P

متن کاملEvaluation of oxidant/antioxidant status in serum of sheep experimentally envenomated with Hemiscorpius lepturus scorpion venom
Scorpion envenomation is a main general health problem in developing countries, especially in tropical and subtropical regions. Hemiscorpius lepturus as a member of the Hemiscorpiidae family is cause of the most scorpion sting lethality in Iran. In the present study, the oxidative stress and antioxidant defense in serum of envenomated sheep with the venom of Hemiscorpius lepturus</...
متن کاملA study of hematological changes in sheep naturally infected with Anaplasma spp. and Theileria ovis: Molecular diagnosis
BACKGROUND: Ovine anaplasmosis and theileriosis are important tick-borne diseases of sheep and goats which are distributed in the tropical and subtropical areas of the world. OBJECTIVES: This study was performed to assess hematological status in sheep naturally infected with Anaplasma and Theileria spp. to clarify the pathogenic aspects of various species involved in ovine anaplasmosis and thei...
متن کاملMolecular study on infection rates of Anaplasma ovis and Anaplasma marginale in sheep and cattle in West-Azerbaijan province, Iran
This study was carried out to determine the presence and frequency of Anaplasma ovis and Anaplasma marginale in sheep and dairy cattle in West-Azerbaijan province, Iran. A total number of 200 blood samples were randomly collected via the jugular vein from apparently healthy cattle (100) and sheep (100). The extracted DNA from blood cells was screened using genus-specific (Anaplasma...
متن کاملCellular and humoral local immune responses in sheep experimentally infected with Oestrus ovis (Diptera: Oestridae).
Cellular and humoral local responses were investigated following repetitive artificial Oestrus ovis infections in lambs. The presence of larvae induced a huge local recruitment of either leucocytes (T and B lymphocytes, macrophages) or granulocytes (eosinophils, mast cells and globule leucocytes). This cellular response was more pronounced in the ethmoid and sinus (development sites of second a...

INTRODUCTION Bluetongue (BT) is a non-contagious infectious disease of ruminants. The disease agent bluetongue virus (BTV) is classified in the Reoviridae family Orbivirus. AIMS AND OBJECTIVES The aim of this study was to determine serum malondialdehyde (MDA), total antioxidative stres (TAS), total sialic acid (TSA), ceruloplasmin, triglyceride, alanine aminotransferase (ALT), aspartate amino...
