Evaluating the Resiliency of Baghershahr against Earthquake

چکیده مقاله:
BACKGROUND: Because of the vulnerability of human settlements to natural disasters and damage caused by them, the study of the resilience of settlements has become critical in planning urban areas. The purpose of this paper is to evaluate resiliency of Baghershahr, a town with a population of 65000, locates in 4 km from Tehran city, against earthquake. METHODS: The research data were collected by survey method (questionnaire tool) and also by using statistical documents and documentary reports. AHP technique has been used to determine the coefficient of importance of indicators and descriptive statistics methods have been used in data analysis. RESULTS: The study area has, on average, only 36.6% of the ideal conditions of resiliency. The figure in institutional dimension was 25.5%, indicating that this dimension has lowest resilience compared with other dimensions. After this, the physical dimension has a figure of 31.7%. In case of economic dimension, the figure was 40.5% of the ideal rate of resiliency and the highest level belongs to the social dimension, which was 45.4%. CONCLUSION: The studied area is an example of Iranian settlements with very low resiliency. On one hand, low level of the resiliency of Baghershahr is due to the threats caused from its vicinity to the oil and gas refinery complex, the thermal power plant, the sulfur industry, and the numerous plastic recycling workshops, the huge stores of petroleum products, gas and crude oil and crude oil pipelines. On the other hand, it is due to sudden formation and uncontrolled rapid growth of the town which has been accompanied by widespread migration of low-income classes over the past few decades.

Optimal Resiliency against Mobile Faults
In this paper we consider a model where malicious agents can corrupt hosts and move around in a network of processors. We consider a family of mobilefault models MF( t n−1 , ρ). In MF( t n−1 , ρ) there are a total of n processors, the maximum number of mobile faults is t, and their roaming pace is ρ (for example, ρ = 3 means that it takes an agent at least 3 rounds to “hop” to the next host). W...

متن کاملOn the Resiliency of Randomized Routing Against Multiple Edge Failures
We study the STATIC-ROUTING-RESILIENCY problem, motivated by routing on the Internet: Given a graph G = (V,E), a unique destination vertex d, and an integer constant c > 0, does there exist a static and destination-based routing scheme such that the correct delivery of packets from any source s to the destination d is guaranteed so long as (1) no more than c edges fail and (2) there exists a ph...

متن کاملEvaluating Attack Resiliency for Host Intrusion Detection Systems
Host intrusion detection systems (HIDSs) are important tools used to provide security to computer systems. Many HIDSs exist and security practitioners need a way to determine the optimal security solution for their environment. Current evaluations of HIDSs focus on detection accuracy and typically do not account for the possibility that an adversary may subvert the HIDS and modify the outcome. ...
متن کاملStatistical Tests for Evaluating Earthquake Prediction Methods
The impact of including postcursors in the null hypothesis test is discussed. Unequal prediction probabilities can be included in the null hypothesis test using a generalization of the central limit theorem. A test for determining the enhancement factor over random chance is given. The seismic earthquake signal may preferentially precede earthquakes even if the VAN methodology fails to forecast...
