Effect of Intravenous Ketamine on Prevention of Postoperative Shivering: A Comparison with Intravenous Pethedine
نویسندگان
چکیده مقاله:
Introduction: Postoperative shivering is one of the common problems following general anesthesia and may lead to multiple complications. This study aimed to compare the impact of Ketamine and Pethidine on postoperative shivering. Methods: In a randomized clinical trial, one hundred and thirty-five patients undergoing elective abdominal surgery were recruited for the study. The patients were randomly divided to groups received Normal Saline, Ketamine or Pethidine at the end of surgery. The frequency of shivering was determined immediately after surgery, and at 10. 20. And 30 minutes, postoperatively. Results: In zero time the rate of shivering was more severe than other times in the three groups. Also the rate of postoperative shivering was significance less different in the pethedine and Ketamine groups than the Normal Saline group. However, no significant difference was seen between the pethedine and Ketamine groups. Conclusions: The result of this study showed that exactly after operation, the rate of postoperative shivering was more severe than other times in 3 groups. Ketamine and Pethidine might reduce postoperative shivering with no significant difference.

متن کاملA Comparison of Intravenous Dexamethasone, Pethidine and Ketamine in the Prevention of Postoperative Shivering in Patients Undergoing General Anesthesia
Introduction and Purpouse: Postoperative shivering, which is unpleasant and annoying to the patient, occurs in patients with general anesthesia occurring in up to 65% of cases. Different mechanisms have been proposed for postoperative shivering. Chills after anesthesia can cause cardiovascular complications, bleeding and infections. this study, effects of dexamethasone, pethidine and ketamine h...
متن کاملComparison of preemptive effect of intravenous ketorolac versus meperidine on postoperative shivering and pain in patients undergoing cesarean section under spinal anesthesia: A prospective, randomized, double-blind study
Background: Pain and shivering are two unpleasant problems in postoperative period. Various techniques are used to alleviate the postoperative shivering and pain. We compared the preemptive prescription of a single dose of intravenous meperidine and ketorolac on postoperative pain and shivering in patients undergoing cesarean section with spinal anesthesia. Methods: One hundred and ...
متن کاملPostoperative Management of Shivering: A Comparison of Pethidine vs. Ketamine
BACKGROUND One of the unpleasant side effects of general anesthesia is shivering in the process of recovery. It is an involuntary oscillatory mechanical movement that can be classified as clonic movements. These movements can affect one or several groups of skeletal muscles beginning from 5 to 30 minutes after the discontinuation of anesthesia. OBJECTIVES We aimed to study ketamine's effect o...

BACKGROUND Postoperative shivering is a major problem in children undergoing general anesthesia. OBJECTIVES The aim of the present study was to investigate the role of low-dose intravenous ketamine for prevention of shivering after induction of general anesthesia in children who had undergone tonsillectomy. PATIENTS AND METHODS This was a randomized, double-blinded, placebo-controlled trial...

conclusions administration of intravenous ketamine at a dosage of 0.5 mg/kg immediately after anesthesia induction had a preventive effect on shivering intensity without hemodynamic alterations in children undergoing general anesthesia for tonsillectomy. results with regards to the demographic and surgical data, no significant differences between the two study groups were observed (p ≥ 0.05). s...
