چکیده مقاله:

Objective(s):EMAP-like Protein 5 (EML5) is a new echinoderm microtubule-associated protein that is expressed in the central nervous system. The aim of this study was to investigate the expression profile of EML5 in the anterior temporal neocortex of patients presenting with intractable epilepsy (IE). Materials and Methods:Western blot assays were performed to determine EML5 expression in 36 surgically resected anterior temporal neocortices of patients with IE and eight control tissues. Immunohistochemistry and immunofluorescence were employed to explore protein expression in IE. Results:EML5 was highly expressed in both neurons and glial cells of the anterior temporal neocortex of IE patients, whereas only low levels of EML5 were detected in control brain tissues. Western blotting showed an enhanced expression of EML5 protein in the anterior temporal neocortex of IE (optical density (OD) = 1.8030 ± 0.1335/1.1852 ± 0.2253,P

A fusion protein of echinoderm microtubule associated protein like-4 (EML4) and anaplastic lymphoma kinase

Recently, a fusion protein of echinoderm microtubule associated protein like-4 (EML4) and anaplastic lymphoma kinase (ALK) has been found in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients. In addition, endogenous expression of phosphorylated c-Met was found to be increased in many invasive NSCLC cases. PF-02341066 (crizotinib) is a novel dual c-Met and EML4-ALK inhibitor, and preclinical studies h...

Overexpression of μ-calpain in the anterior temporal neocortex of patients with intractable epilepsy correlates with clinicopathological characteristics

PURPOSE This study aims to investigate μ-calpain expression profiles in the anterior temporal neocortex in patients with intractable epilepsy, and to determine whether its pattern of expression is related to pathological changes seen in these patients. METHODS The study subjects consisted of 30 patients with intractable epilepsy and a control group of 10 patients with brain trauma who underwe...

Pulmonary lymphoepithelioma‐like carcinoma with echinoderm microtubule‐associated protein‐like 4‐anaplastic lymphoma kinase (EML4‐ALK) fusion gene

A pulmonary lymphoepithelioma-like carcinoma (PLELC) is similar to a lymphoepithelioma, a subtype of nasopharyngeal carcinoma and commonly associated with Epstein-Barr virus infection which is a rare tumour and classified in the group of "other and unclassified carcinoma" in the latest 2015 World Health Organization (WHO) classification. Some reports of lymphoepithelioma-like carcinoma (LELC) h...

Prefrontal hypofunction in patients with intractable mesial temporal lobe epilepsy.

We compared the cognitive functions and interictal cerebral glucose metabolism of 11 patients with mesial temporal lobe epilepsy (MTLE) with frequent seizures to those of 10 patients with MTLE with rare seizures; the groups were matched for age, sex, education, IQ, and focus side. The frequent-seizure group had more set-shifting impairment that correlated with glucose hypometabolism in the pref...
