Development of Iranian Adult Female Reference Phantom for Internal Dosimetry Calculations

چکیده مقاله:

Estimation of organ doses in diagnostic and therapeutic nuclear medicine procedures is an area of particular concern for radiation protection, in all over the world. The stylized computational phantoms have contributed significantly to radiation dosimetry in nuclear medicine; however, their simplified treatment of human anatomy is being criticized. Due to the fact that the ICRP adult reference phantoms are representative of Caucasian population, dose estimation within other ethnic/racial groups was recommended. In this study, an Iranian adult female reference phantom has been developed and internal dosimetry calculations have been performed for several radiopharmaceutical labelled with beta-, gamma- and positron-emitting radionuclides incorporated into Iranian and ICRP adult female reference phantoms. For main source and target organs, the ratios of S values between ICRP reference phantom to Iranian reference phantom for I-131, Tc-99m and F-18 are 0.54-1.23, 0.54-1.15 and 0.77-1.79, respectively. Therefore, construction of a reference phantom proportional to Iranian ethnicity for both gender in all age groups and performing internal dosimetry calculations to create a library of internal dosimetric data for Iranian patients were confirmed clearly.

Development of Prototype Iranian male pelvic phantom for internal dosimetry

Introduction: Existing phantoms have been constructed based on Caucasian, non-Caucasian and race-specific datasets. According to previous studies made efforts to present Korean- specific phantoms and Chinese female phantom based on CVH dataset due to compare the resulting internal dosimetry with the Caucasian based data showed possible racial difference in human anatomy between ...

RADAR reference adult, pediatric, and pregnant female phantom series for internal and external dosimetry.

UNLABELLED A new generation of reference computational phantoms, based on image-based models tied to the reference masses defined by the International Commission on Radiological Protection (ICRP) for dose calculations, is presented. METHODS Anatomic models based on nonuniform rational b-spline modeling techniques were used to define reference male and female adults, 15-y-olds, 10-y-olds, 5-y-...

Development of a 9-months pregnant hybrid phantom and its internal dosimetry for thyroid agents

As a consequence of fetal radiosensitivity, the estimation of internal dose received by a fetus from radiopharmaceuticals applied to the mother is often important in nuclear medicine. A new 9-months pregnant phantom based on magnetic resonance (MR) images tied to the International Commission on Radiological Protection (ICRP) reference voxel phantom has been developed. Maternal and fetal organs ...

New calculations for internal dosimetry of beta-emitting radiopharmaceuticals.

The calculation of absorbed dose from internally incorporated radionuclides is based on the so-called specific absorbed fractions (SAFs) which represent the fraction of energy emitted in a given source region that is absorbed per unit mass in a specific target organ. Until recently, photon SAFs were calculated using MIRD-type mathematical phantoms. For electrons, the energy released was assumed...

RC-3a Monte Carlo Simulations for In Vivo Internal Dosimetry (including phantom development)

The radiation doses received by individuals from radionuclides which enter the human body cannot be measured directly but must be inferred. In these calculations several measurable quantities (as the internal whole body burden or urine daily excretion) and quantities derived from models are employed. The Radiation Protection Quantities for internal dosimetry are in principle the same as for ext...

Development of Computed Tomography Head and Body Phantom for Organ Dosimetry

Introduction: Quality assurance in Computed tomography (CT) centers in developing countries are largely hindered by the unavailability of CT phantoms. The development of a local CT phantom for the measurement of organ radiation absorbed dose is therefore requisite. Material and Methods: Local CT phantoms were designed to meet the standard criteria of 32 cm diameter for body, 16 cm diameter for...
