چکیده مقاله:
Background and purpose: There are clinical and histopathological similaritie between lichen planus (OLP) and oral lichenoid reactions (OLL) but they have different treatment approaches. The present study examined the correlation between clinical and histopathological findings in lichen planus and oral lichenoid reaction based on modified WHO diagnostic criteria in order to evaluate using these criteria in differentiating these lesions. Materials and methods: In this retrospective descriptive study, information, including clinical characteristics, age, sex, and histopathological characteristics were extracted from the clinical records of 101 OLP cases and 49 OLL cases. The paraffin block of biopsies was removed from the archives in pathology department and the prepared incision was stained with hematoxylin-eosin. The slides were examined by a pathologist and histopathological characteristics were recorded in a checklist. Data were analyzed by descriptive statistics, kappa score, Chi-square, and independent sample t-test. Results: According to the 1978 diagnostic criteria, the agreement between clinical and histopathological diagnosis was 98.79% in OLP and 69.57% in OLL (P<0.001). According to the Modified WHO diagnostic criteria, the agreement between clinical and histopathological diagnosis was 99% in OLP and 71.43% in OLL (P<0.001). Conclusion: In diagnosis of lichen planus and oral lichenoid reaction, there is a higher clinicopathologic correlation based on the modified WHO diagnostic criteria compared with the 1978 diagnostic criteria. Therefore, it is suggested to be used in clinical and histopathological investigations.

Oral lichenoid reactions represent a common end point in response to extrinsic agents (drugs, allergens), altered self-antigens, or superantigens. Oral lichen planus, a common and under-recognized inflammatory disorder, shares many clinical and histopathological features with oral lichenoid drug reaction and oral lichenoid contact reaction. Clinical presentation can vary from asymptomatic white...

BACKGROUND To examine if patients with oral lichen planus, oral lichenoid lesions and generalised stomatitis and concomitant contact allergy have more frequent and severe xerostomia, lower unstimulated and chewing-stimulated saliva and citric-acid-stimulated parotid saliva flow rates, and higher salivary concentration of total protein and sIgA than cases without contact allergy and healthy cont...
متن کاملOral Lichen Planus or Oral Lichenoid Reaction? A Literature Review
Background and Aim: Oral lichen planus (OLP) is a chronic, inflammatory, T-cell-mediated autoimmune oral mucosal disease. Oral lichenoid lesions develop as a type IV hypersensitivity reaction. Both of these entities are potential precancerous conditions; this adds to their clinical significance. The purpose of this literature review was to detect the similarities and the differences of these le...

Oral lichen planus (OLP) and oral lichenoid reaction (OLR) are clinically and histopathologically similar diseases. Whereas OLP is a consequence of T cell mediated autoinflammatory process to a still unknown antigen, OLR might be caused by drugs, dental restorative materials and dental plaque. Pubmed was searched and 24 publications published over the last three years regarding etiology, diagno...
