Chronic Endometritis: Old Problem, Novel Insights and Future Challenges
نویسندگان
چکیده مقاله:
Background/Aims: Chronic endometritis (CE) is a poorly investigated pathology that has been related to adverse reproductive outcomes, such as implantation failure and recurrent miscarriage. In this paper we aim to provide an overview about diagnosis, etiology, pathophysiology and treatment of CE, its impact on endometrial microenvironment and how it may be associated with infertility. Methods: Narrative review of the current literature, synthesizing the findings retrieved from searches of computerized databases. Results: CE is more prevalent in infertile patients. Effective antibiotic treatment of CE seems to improve the per pregnancy live birth rate in patients with unexplained recurrent pregnancy loss, and increase ongoing pregnancy rate in patients with recurrent implantation failure. In order to increase the diagnostic accuracy, immunohistochemistry is recommended besides conventional histology. In addition, hysteroscopy could be considered the gold standard tool for the diagnosis, considering its high correlation with histological findings. Conclusion: CE is the chronic inflammation of the endometrium, usually asymptomatic and probably underestimated. Interaction between bacteria and endometrial microenvironment promotes changes in leukocyte population, cytokine production and growth factors which support its negative impact on endometrial receptivity. Nevertheless, standardization of the criteria for histopathological diagnosis and immunohistochemistry technique needs to be defined.

Chronic Endometritis
Chronic endometritis is a persistent inflammation of the inner lining of the uterine cavity. Several studies have demonstrated that it is a condition frequently associated with repeat‐ ed unexplained implantation failure at in vitro fertilization, recurrent miscarriage, as well as poor obstetric outcomes such as preterm labor. The aim of this paper is to provide information about diagnosis and ...
متن کاملCryptosporidium species: new insights and old challenges.
Cryptosporidium species are protozoan parasites that cause mainly enteric illnesses in humans and other animals. The mode of transmission is most commonly waterborne, but other sources of infection, including foodborne and person-to-person spread, have been documented. The environmental form of the parasite is resistant to most water purification methods, including chlorination. Cryptosporidium...
متن کاملChronic endometritis and infertility
Chronic endometritis (CE) is a condition involving the breakdown of the peaceful co-existence between microorganisms and the host immune system in the endometrium. A majority of CE cases produce no noticeable signs or mild symptoms, and the prevalence rate of CE has been found to be approximately 10%. Gynecologists and pathologists often do not focus much clinical attention on CE due to the tim...
متن کاملPalaeoclimatic insights into future climate challenges.
Palaeoclimatic data document a sensitive climate system subject to large and perhaps difficult-to-predict abrupt changes. These data suggest that neither the sensitivity nor the variability of the climate are fully captured in some climate-change projections, such as the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) Summary for Policymakers. Because larger, faster and less-expected climate c...

Scientific and technological advances in our understanding of the nature and consequences of human genetic variation are now allowing genetic determinants of susceptibility to common multifactorial diseases to be defined, as well as our individual response to therapy. I review how genome-wide association studies are robustly identifying new disease susceptibility loci, providing insights into d...
متن کاملMapping dexterity and handedness: recent insights and future challenges
Manual ability (dexterity) and hand preference (handedness) are key features of human motor control. Recent magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) studies casted new light on the neural underpinnings of dexterity. In right-handers, MRI identified structural brain features related to the right–left difference in dexterity or skill acquisition. Functional MRI disclosed a hierarchical and modular repres...
