Camera based EPID dosimetric verification of radiation treatments
نویسندگان
چکیده مقاله:
Introduction: Tumor control and treatment quality depend on accuracy of delivered dose. Various methods have been studied for treatment dosimetry verification. Among these methods, the use of electronic portal imaging device (EPID) is highly considered. Many efforts are underway to improve the results of this context. Materials and Methods: In this study, a new method for pretreatment dose verification is reported using the transmitted signal of a camera based EPID. Lateral scatter within imager has been considered as field size dependent additive operation. Lateral scatter description within the imager were obtained from measurements with a 2D array ionization chambers for a set of different field sizes. The water-equivalent thickness of phantom material was defined for dose reconstruction, by means of the treatment planning system, according to the patient's data in CT scans along the beam central axis. Results: The method was tested for pretreatment verification of 3D conformal prostate cancer treatment plans. There are no significant differences between the EPID and ionization chamber responses (P value = 0.37). Conclusion: This study proposes a practical method with easier and less calculations in comparison to the deconvolution approaches that can be applied for overall dosimetric assessments of treatments in every fraction.

A methodology for the dosimetric verification of micro-multileaf collimator MMLC) based intensity modulated radiation therapy (IMRT) plans intended for stereotactic applications is described. The procedure is similar to that of conventional IMRT patient-specific quality assurance with some notable exceptions. Relative dosimetry measurements are performed with radiographic film, a commercial fil...
متن کاملCamera‐based independent couch height verification in radiation oncology
For specific radiation therapy (RT) treatments, it is advantageous to use the isocenter-to-couch distance (ICD) for initial patient setup.(1) Since sagging of the treatment couch is not properly taken into account by the electronic readout of the treatment machine, this readout cannot be used for initial patient positioning using the isocenter-to-couch distance (ICD). Therefore, initial patient...

Background: Commissioning tests are recommended before implementing Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy. This study evaluated five different plans of IMRT mocks for different modulation indices. Materials and Methods: IMRT tests were done in slab phantom for both 6MV and 15 MV photon energies using a 2D array ion chamber dosimeter. Results: The acceptance criteria were based on 3% /3mm. All t...
متن کاملA Monte Carlo simulation and dosimetric verification of physical wedges used in radiation therapy
Background: The presence of a wedge filter in the beam trajectory can modify the beam quality and cause some changes in the dosimetry parameters which are usually difficult to be measured directly and accurately. Material and Methods: In this study the MCNP-4C Monte Carlo code was used to simulate the 9 MV photon beam generated by a linear accelerator. Upon getting a good agreement bet...
متن کاملAn EPID-based method for comprehensive verification of gantry, EPID and the MLC carriage positional accuracy in Varian linacs during arc treatments
BACKGROUND In modern radiotherapy, it is crucial to monitor the performance of all linac components including gantry, collimation system and electronic portal imaging device (EPID) during arc deliveries. In this study, a simple EPID-based measurement method has been introduced in conjunction with an algorithm to investigate the stability of these systems during arc treatments with the aim of en...
