چکیده مقاله:

Introduction: Atrial fibrillation (AF) is the most common complication of cardiac surgery which may cause remarkable morbidity and complications. Identifying predicting factors of this arrhythmia can help prophylactic therapy. The present study is designed to investigate the hypothesis that HsCRP level and P-wave characteristics are associated with the incidence of post-operative AF. Methods: In this prospective study, 50 consecutive patients undergoing coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) operation during a 1-year period at Vali-e-asr Hospital, Birjand, Iran were enrolled. All the patients underwent electrocardiography (ECG) before surgery and P-wave duration and height were measured. In addition, blood samples were collected the day before surgery as well as 12, 24 and 72 hours after surgery to measure CRP serum levels. Patients were monitored after surgery to detect probable AF rhythm. Data was analyzed using SPSS 16. Results: Of the 50 patients, 10 (20%) developed AF in the postoperative phase during days 1 to 5, while the other 40 patients (80%) had stable sinus rhythm. P-wave duration and height were significantly different in patients who subsequently developed postoperative AF with the mean values of 109.5±15.7 and 0.14±0.03, respectively. Mean HsCRP levels before and 12, 24, and 72 h after operation showed no significant difference. Conclusions: Patients prone to AF arrhythmia can be identified by measuring P-wave duration and height in preoperative ECG. Hs.CRP levels before and after CABG surgery may not contribute to AF prediction.

Incidence of Atrial Fibrillation after Coronary Artery Bypass Graft Surgery and Its Risk Factors in Shiraz, Iran during 2017-18

Background and Objectives: Atrial fibrillation is one of the most common disorientations after coronary artery bypass graft surgery and can affect the chance of survival in the first year after surgery. The present study aimed to determine the incidence of atrial fibrillation after coronary artery bypass graft surgery and its risk factors.   Methods: This cross-sectional study was performed on...

Preoperative sCD40L levels predict risk of atrial fibrillation after off-pump coronary artery bypass graft surgery.

BACKGROUND The risk of atrial fibrillation (AF) after coronary bypass surgery has been related to redox state, inflammation, and ischemia. Platelet activation is common to all of these pathways. We investigated the relation between AF and preoperative soluble CD40 ligand (sCD40L), a proinflammatory marker released by activated platelets. Furthermore, we studied the role of inflammation, endothe...

Preoperative C-reactive protein and atrial fibrillation after off-pump coronary bypass surgery.

OBJECTIVE The purpose of the present study was to investigate the association between preoperative C-reactive protein (CRP) and atrial fibrillation (AF) after isolated off-pump coronary bypass surgery. METHODS Of 683 consecutive patients undergoing isolated coronary bypass surgery by a single surgeon between January 2002 and March 2009, 552 were retrospectively analyzed after excluding the fo...

Atrial fibrillation after coronary artery bypass graft surgery.

BACKGROUND Atrial fibrillation (AF) is the most common adverse event following coronary artery bypass graft surgery. A recent study identified chromosome 4q25 variants associated with AF in ambulatory populations. However, their role in postoperative AF is unknown. We hypothesized that genetic variants in the 4q25 chromosomal region are independently associated with postoperative AF after coron...

relationship between blood transfusion and increased risk of atrial fibrillation after coronary artery bypass graft surgery

background: new-onset atrial fibrillation (af) after cardiac surgery contributes to increased morbidity, hospital length of stay, and resource utilization. although many aspects of af after cardiac surgery have already been elucidated, the mechanism by which cardiac surgery predisposes patients to af has hitherto remained unknown. recent evidence supports the notion that blood transfusion enhan...

Preoperative C-reactive protein predicts respiratory infection after coronary artery bypass graft surgery.

BACKGROUND Increased levels of high-sensitive C-reactive protein (hsCRP) in the preoperative evaluation for coronary artery bypass graft surgery (CABG) have been associated to poor outcomes in the postoperative period. OBJECTIVE To evaluate the association of high levels of hsCRP with short-term outcomes after cardiac surgery. METHODS Prospective cohort with 331 patients who underwent CABG ...
