Assessment of HTLV-I proviral load, HIV viral load and CD4 T cell count in infected subjects; with an emphasis on viral replication in co-infection

چکیده مقاله:
Objective(s): HTLV-I and HIV virus quantification is an important marker for assessment of virus activities. Since there is a direct relationship between the number of virus and disease progression, HTLV- I and HIV co-infection might have an influence on the development of viral associated diseases, thus, viral replication of these viruses and co-infection were evaluated. Materials and Methods: In this study, 40 subjects were selected; 14 HIV infected, 20 HTLV-I infected and 6 HTLV-I/HIV co-infected subjects. The amount of viruses was measured using qPCR TaqMan method and CD4 and CD8 lymphocytes were assessed by flow cytometry. Results: The mean viral load of HIV infected subjects and HTLV-I infected individuals were 134626.07±60031.07 copies/ml and 373.6±143.3 copies/104 cells, respectively. The mean HIV viral load in co-infected group was 158947±78203.59 copies/ml which is higher than HIV infected group. The mean proviral load of HTLV-I in co-infected group was 222.33±82.56 copies/ml which is lower than HTLV-I infected group (P

متن کاملImpact of syphilis infection on HIV viral load and CD4 cell counts in HIV-infected patients.
OBJECTIVES To assess the effect of early syphilis on HIV viral load (VL) and CD4 cell count in patients with HIV and to analyze factors associated with changes in HIV VL and CD4 cell count. DESIGN Multicenter study of a series of patients with HIV who were diagnosed with early syphilis infection during 2004 through 2005. Patients who started or changed their highly active antiretroviral thera...
متن کاملHIV-2 viral tropism influences CD4+ T cell count regardless of viral load.
BACKGROUND HIV-2 infection is characterized by low plasma viraemia and slower progression to AIDS in comparison with HIV-1 infection. However, antiretroviral therapy in patients with HIV-2 is less effective and often fails to provide optimal CD4 recovery. METHODS We examined viral tropism in persons with HIV-2 infection enrolled in the HIV-2 Spanish cohort. Viral tropism was estimated based o...
متن کاملHIV viral load response to antiretroviral therapy according to the baseline CD4 cell count and viral load.
CONTEXT It is unclear whether delay in initiation of antiretroviral therapy (ART) may lead to a poorer viral load response for patients with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). OBJECTIVE To characterize the relationship of viral load response to ART with baseline CD4 cell count and baseline viral load. DESIGN Inception cohort of 3430 therapy-naive patients with HIV, of whom 3226 patients ha...
متن کاملLoss of correlation between HIV viral load and CD4+ T-cell counts in HIV/HTLV-1 co-infection in treatment naive Mozambican patients.
Seven hundred and four HIV-1/2-positive, antiretroviral therapy (ART) naïve patients were screened for HTLV-1 infection. Antibodies to HTLV-1 were found in 32/704 (4.5%) of the patients. Each co-infected individual was matched with two HIV mono-infected patients according to World Health Organization clinical stage, age +/-5 years and gender. Key clinical and laboratory characteristics were com...
