Antioxidants and their Effects in Pregnancy

اکثر ساختارهای سلولی بدن از جمله غشاءها، پروتئین های ساختمانی، آنزیم ها و اسیدهای نوکلئیک نسبت به رادیکالهای آزاد) آسیب پذیر بوده و ممکن است دچار جهش یا مرگ سلولی گردند. رادیکال آزاد، اتم یا مولکولی است که به دلیل دارا بودن یک یا چند الکترون جفت نشده، تمایل به گرفتن الکترون از مواد دیگر دارد. این ویژگی موجب فعال شدن و انجام واکنش رادیکالهای آزاد با سایر مواد می شود رادیکالهای آزاد سوپراکسید پراکسید هیدروژن و هیدروکسیل از جمله این ترکیبات هستند. از این رو پراکسیداسیون یا اتو اکسیداسیون لیپیدها با تولید مداوم رادیکالهای آزاد، علاوه بر تخریب و از بین بردن مواد غذایی به نسوج بدن نیز آسیب می رساند و می تواند عامل بروز سرطان، بیماریهای التهابی، آترواسکلروز، پیری و غیره باشد. شواهد روزافزونی در مورد ارتباط رادیکالهای آزاد و سایر مولکولهای واکنشی با فرایندهای بیماری وجود دارد. مطالعات انجام شده رابطه آماری قابل توجهی بین میزان بروز بیماریها و مقدار پایین مواد آنتی اکسیدان () در خون یا رژیم غذایی نشان داده اند. این حالت در مورد ارتباط سرطان با سلنیوم، ویتامین A بتا کاروتن و ویتامینهای C و E صدق می کند. همچنین ارتباط معکوس بین میزان بروز بیماریهای قلب و عروق و مقدار ویتامین های C و E در بدن وجود دارد.(۹) . . .
