Abstract Introduction: McCubbin's theoretical framework, the resiliency model of family stress, adjustment and adaptation states that, there are four main domains of life, one of which is wellbeing, which may be subject of psychological tension or stress and in which family balance and harmony play an important function for adaptation. Although many researches have examined influential variables regarding individual wellbeing, most of these studies have been designed to tap constructs at the individual level. However, the findings of the present study indicate that some variables at the family level can influence individual's wellbeing. The present research elucidates on the mechanisms by which family hardiness fosters healthier communication styles that in turn lead to higher individual wellbeing. To conclude, family hardiness can provide the context for the nurturance healthy family patterns that enhance people's experience of positive affect, life satisfaction and purpose and meaning in life. Method: It is correlation research. Participants included 389 students from undergraduate public universities in Tehran. By using multistage random sampling procedure three universities were chosen and from each university, 2 faculties were selected. In the next stage, participants' inclusion in the research was based on availability sampling method procedures. Measures used included the Family Hardiness Index, Family Problem Solving Communication Index and Family Member Wellbeing Index. Data were analyzed with regression analyses. .Result: Finally, a full mediation mechanism was obtained for the role of family hardiness in the relationship between family problem solving communication and family wellbeing. Discussion: positive pattern of family problem solving communication is a key feature of families with a hardiness characteristics and it has a direct effect on family member’s well-being.
