Abstract:

Background  Wisdom teeth are usually removed as a routine procedure for therapeutic or prophylactic reasons. Developing wisdom teeth are easy accessible source of stem cells during the adulthood which could be obtained. Methods  Search of the PubMed for stem cells and tooth was done. An inclusion criterion was extract of stem cells from wisdom tooth. Results  Stem cells can be obtained from dental papilla, dental sac, periodontal membrane and dental follicle of wisdom tooth. Conclusion  Extracting stem cells from wisdom teeth has the unique benefit. It is the only tissue that can be removed from the body prophylactically in aseptic conditions. Keywords:  Dental papilla, Stem cells, Wisdom tooth.

Does wisdom tooth provide tooth germs for tooth regeneration?

Introduction Regenerating a tooth completely in human oral cavity is not achieved by current studies yet. Here, we have conceived a man-induced method to construct a teeth germ which might be used to regenerate a tooth in vivo. This idea was generated by traits of the development of the compound odontoma, a benign tumour of tooth malformation. This is a kind of developmental tooth malformation,...

Wisdom tooth--complications in extraction.

The purpose of this study is to analyze the incidence of complications in a group of 171 patients in whom extractions of impacted mandibular third molar have been performed by two oral surgeons between the period April 2010 and March 2012. This retrospective study comprises evaluation of 270 impacted mandibular third molars which were classified into two groups A and B on the basis of procedure...

Stem cells for tooth engineering.

Tooth development results from sequential and reciprocal interactions between the oral epithelium and the underlying neural crest-derived mesenchyme. The generation of dental structures and/or entire teeth in the laboratory depends upon the manipulation of stem cells and requires a synergy of all cellular and molecular events that finally lead to the formation of tooth-specific hard tissues, de...

Isolation and in vitro Characterization of Mesenchymal Stem Cells Derived from the Pulp Tissue of Human Third Molar Tooth

Background: It is still controversial that the stem cells isolated from human dental pulp meets the criteria for mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs). The aim of the present study was to examine whether or not they are MSCs, or are distinct stem cells population residing in tooth pulp. Methods: Adherent fibroblastic cells in the culture of pulp tissue from human third molars were propagated through se...

Cell Supermarket: Adipose Tissue as a Source of Stem Cells

Adipose tissue is derived from numerous sources, and in recent years this tissue has been shown to provide numerous cells from what seemingly was a population of homogeneous adipocytes. Considering the types of cells that adipose tissue-derived cells may form, these cells may be useful in a variety of clinical and scientific applications. The focus of this paper is to reflect on this area of re...
