Abstract:

Owing to the importance and necessity of identifying soil properties in arid rangeland management, and the variableeffects of different kinds of herbivores on soil, this study compares some of the physical and chemical properties ofsoil between two regions experiencing livestock and wildlife grazing in the desert rangelands of Kalmand-Bahadoranin Yazd province. The key areas in two regions experiencing livestock and wildlife grazing were selected, and soilsamples were taken at depths of 0-30 cm using the systematic random sampling method. All samples were thentransferred to the laboratory to determine the desired parameters. Finally, soil characteristics were compared betweenthe two regions. The results indicate that physical properties of the soil such as clay and moisture percentage show nosignificant differences. Bulk density in the region of livestock grazing reveals a highly significant increase comparedto the area under wildlife grazing (P

Combination effect of grazing intensity and livestock type (sheep, cattle and integrated grazing) on physical and chemical properties of soil (Case study: woody rangelands of Savadkouh city, Mazandaran)

Intense grazing of rangeland is one of the most important factors affecting rangeland degradation, which causes soil compaction, increased runoff, weakening and degradation of vegetation, and changes in rangeland species composition, and ultimately affects forage and livestock production. The present study was conducted to investigate the different intensities of cattle and sheep grazing and in...

Soil-Vegetation Relationships in Arid Rangelands (Case Study: Nodushan Rangelands of Yazd, Iran)

The objective of this research was to identify the vegetation-soil relationships in Nodushan arid rangelands of Yazd. 5 sites were selected for measuring the cover of plant species and soil attributes. Soil samples were taken in 0-10 and 10-80 cm layers. The species studied were Salsola tomentosa, Salsola arbuscula, Peganum harmala, Zygophylum eurypterum and Eurotia ceratoides. Canonical corres...

Comparing Deterministic and Geostatistical Methods in Spatial Distribution Study of Soil Physical and Chemical Properties in Arid Rangelands (Case Study: Masileh Plain, Qom, Iran)

Accurate knowledge of spatial distribution of soil physical and chemical properties is needed for suitable management and proper use of rangelands in Masileh plain, Qom, Iran. In present study, for the spatial modeling of chemical and physical parameters such as sodium (Na), calcium (Ca), soluble potassium (K), magnesium (Mg), Electrical Conductivity (EC), Saturation Percentage (SP%), silt, cla...
