Water Quality Modeling in Persian Gulf Considering Thermal Pollution Sources of Industrial Plants

Authors: not saved
Abstract:

Numerical modeling is carried out to investigate the spreading pattern of industrial wastewater released from coastal refineries and power plant into thePersian Gulf. The pollutant sources due to the wastewater outfall of the coastal industrial plants are completely considered in the model. The effects of sources are inspected on the adjacent marine environment. The numerical model is developed using finite difference method in two horizontal dimensions in plane. The model is applied in several planes along the depth and the effect of depth variation is considered in a depth integrated manner. The pattern of pollution spreading in the water is accurately investigated in various conditions due to spring and neap tides. The various conditions of wind are also considered in the study including various direction and speed based on the available meteorological data. It was concluded that the locations of wastewater outfall and the discharge, temperature, velocity and direction of outfall jet are appropriate to satisfy all of the environmental rules.

investigation of pollution sources and water quality of tajan river

rivers are one of the most valuable aquatic ecosystems that their physiochemical properties and the biology of their organisms have strong interactions. one of the major rivers in iran, which covers a variety of ecosystems, is called tajan river. in this research, the effect of different pollution sources on water quality of this water body was investigated. samples were collected in seven diff...

Regulating Industrial Water Pollution in America

The performance of the industrial point-source water pollution abatement program in the U.S. Clean Water Act is examined. I begin with a brief description of the statute and then turn to a description of the process used to develop the rules that govern effluent discharges. This is followed by a discussion of the outcomes resulting from efforts to apply these rules to industrial pollutant sourc...

Numerical Modeling of Oil Slick Spread in the Persian Gulf

An oil spill model coupled with a hydrodynamic model was developed to simulate the spread of oil slick in real marine conditions considering the effects of tidal currents, wind and wave. The hydrodynamic model is verified using the measurements of tidal elevations and current speeds at the Persian Gulf. Effect of various governing factors on oil slick movement, tidal currents, wind and wave, ar...

Casualties in the Persian Gulf

I read with much interest the article on the above subject by Captains Barber and Doyle in the March number of the Gazette. I was particularly interested in their remarks regarding the value of the first field dressing and the occurrence of tetanus in Arab and Turkish wounded prisoners. It may perhaps not be without interest to relate my small personal experience in regard to the above in anoth...

Persian Gulf Puzzle

Arizona State University, which discovered the compound. The promise of these and other possible disease-fighting compounds beneath the ocean's surface emphasizes the importance of protecting biodiversity. Many environmental groups have turned their attention to oceans because human activities are harming the seas. Some of these activities include wetlands destruction, overfishing, discharge of...

New Persian Gulf possibilities.

Knotted proteins are more commonly observed in recent years due to the enormously growing number of structures in the Protein Data Bank (PDB). Studies show that the knot regions contribute to both ligand binding and enzyme activity in proteins such as the chromophore-binding domain of phytochrome, ketol–acid reductoisomerase or SpoU methyltransferase. However, there are still many misidentified...
