Vehicle Routing Problem: Meta-heuristic Approaches
author
Abstract:
The purpose of this article is to review the literature on the topic of deterministic vehicle routing problem (VRP) and to give a review on the exact and approximate solution techniques. More specifically the approximate (meta-heuristic) solution techniques are classified into: tabu search, simulated annealing, genetic algorithm, evolutionary algorithm, hybrid algorithm, and Ant Colony Optimization. Each of these solution techniques is briefly discussed and a case study from the literature is presented. Keywords: VRP, Solution Methodologies, Exact Solution Methods, Heuristic Solution Techniques, Meta-heuristic Solution Techniques, Simulation.

Modeling the Time Windows Vehicle Routing Problem in Cross-Docking Strategy Using Two Meta-Heuristic Algorithms
In cross docking strategy, arrived products are immediately classified, sorted and organized with respect to their destination. Among all the problems related to this strategy, the vehicle routing problem (VRP) is very important and of special attention in modern technology. This paper addresses the particular type of VRP, called VRPCDTW, considering a time limitation for each customer/retai...
full textSolving the vehicle routing problem by a hybrid meta-heuristic algorithm
The vehicle routing problem (VRP) is one of the most important combinational optimization problems that has nowadays received much attention because of its real application in industrial and service problems. The VRP involves routing a fleet of vehicles, each of them visiting a set of nodes such that every node is visited by exactly one vehicle only once. So, the objective is to minimize the to...
full textMeta Heuristic Algorithms for Vehicle Routing Problem with Stochastic Demands
Problem statement: The shipment of goods from manufacturer to the consumer is a focal point of distribution logistics. In reality, the demand of consumers is not known a priori. This kind of distribution is dealt by Stochastic Vehicle Routing Problem (SVRP) which is a NP-hard problem. In this proposed work, VRP with stochastic demand is considered. A probability distribution is considered as a ...
full textMulti-Phase Meta-Heuristic for Multi-Depots Vehicle Routing Problem
In this work, we present a multi-phase hybrid algorithm based on clustering to solve the multi-depots vehicle routing problem (MDVRP). The proposed algorithm initially adopts K-means algorithm to execute the clustering analyses, which take the depots as the centroids of the clusters, for the all customers of MDVRP, then implements the local depth search using the Shuffled Frog Leaping Algorithm...
full textA novel heuristic algorithm for capacitated vehicle routing problem
The vehicle routing problem with the capacity constraints was considered in this paper. It is quite difficult to achieve an optimal solution with traditional optimization methods by reason of the high computational complexity for large-scale problems. Consequently, new heuristic or metaheuristic approaches have been developed to solve this problem. In this paper, we constructed a new heuristic ...
