Using fuzzy FMEA and fuzzy logic in project risk management
Authors
Abstract:
Risk management is one of the most important phases of project management and isthe most recently used by many researchers. In this paper, a fuzzy based method wasproposed which identifies different kinds of risks through the project life cycle. Then, the project risk magnitude can be obtained in regards to five factors, namely“severity”, “occurrence”, and “not detection” which form fuzzy FMEA and also twoother factors namely project phase weights and risks weights. These two factors inaddition to risk priority number (RPN) factors can lead to the application of betterrisk management. Based on the project risk magnitude, the appropriate risk responseshould be selected. The proposed model covers three parts of risk managementprocess: 1. Risk identification, 2. Quantitative risk analysis and 3. Risk responseplanning. Finally, this model was applied by a numerical example, and project riskmagnitude was calculated for an assumed company, to verify the proposed method.

full textPrioritization of Failure Modes in Process FMEA using Fuzzy Logic
Failure mode and effect analysis (FMEA) is a widely used reliability analysis and risk assessment tool in various industries. It is one of the most established project management techniques to identify and eliminate failures before actual manufacturing starts. In traditional FMEA, Risk Priority Number (RPN) ranking system is used to evaluate; the risk level of failures, to rank failures, and to...

numerous types of development projects, Adams reported similar numbers, where only about one-fourth of all projects entering development become a market success (2004). Datta and Mukerjee (2001) stated that “successful project completion depends to a great extent on the early identifi cation of immediate risks.” Jiang et al. (2002), using factor analysis, confi rmed their hypothesis that risks ...
full textPower plant project risk assessment using a fuzzy-ANP and fuzzy-TOPSIS method
Economic growth in developing countries has resulted in increasing demand for infrastructure projects like power plants. To meet these development needs, the government of Iran has engaged companies to carry out power plant projects. While many papers have been written on the subject of project risk management, little information exists on the actual use of risk management in practice. The prim...
full textRISK MANAGEMENT AND FUZZY LOGIC 1. Introduction
The use of fuzzy logic is the advantage especially at decision making processes where the description by algorithms is very difficult and criteria are multiplied. The advantage is that the linguistic variables are used. The fuzzy logic measures the certainty or uncertainty of membership of element of the set. Analogously the man makes decision during the mental and physical activities. The solu...
full textRisk management in medical product development process using traditional FMEA and fuzzy linguistic approach: a case study
Medical product development (MPD) process is highly multidisciplinary in nature, which increases the complexity and the associated risks. Managing the risks during MPD process is very crucial. The objective of this research is to explore risks during MPD in a dental product manufacturing company and propose a model for risk mitigation during MPD process to minimize failure events. A case study ...
