Unilateral Periorbital Edema Secondary to Sarcoid Parotiditis
author
Abstract:
Purpose: To introduce the case of unilateral periorbital edema secondary to sarcoid parotiditis. Case Report: A 26-year-old female was referred to Labbafinejad Medical Center because of right hemifacial and periorbital edema for last month. The result of a skin biopsy (1 month ago) from her arm showed an unspecified granulomatous inflammation. In addition, she had a new annular lesion on her left arm when she was referred. PPD test was positive with 29 mm induration. After a biopsy of the parotid, gland sarcoidosis was confirmed and she responded brilliantly to oral prednisone in 2 days and all symptoms and signs disappeared in a month. Conclusion: Sarcoidosis can present itself as periorbital edema.

Periorbital edema secondary to imatinib mesylate
Imatinib mesylate (Gleevec((R))) is a well-established pharmacologic treatment for all phases of chronic myeloid leukemia and for advanced gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GISTs). Edema-related side effects are relatively common in imatinib therapy with the periocular skin representing one of the most common sites for localized edema. While the adverse effect of periorbital edema with imatinib ...

Two patients developed bilateral, periorbital edema after initiating positive airway pressure (PAP) therapy with a full face mask. The periorbital edema was more pronounced in the morning and would dissipate throughout the day. This phenomenon seemed to be correlated with the direct pressure of the full face mask, which may have impaired lymphatic and venous drainage. To test this hypothesis, e...

A 52-year-old hypertensive man, with a 40–pack-a-year smoking history, presented to an outside hospital with dyspnea, fever, and cough. Chest x-ray demonstrated rightsided infiltrates. He was treated with antibiotics for presumed pneumonia. However, the patient presented the following morning with worsening dyspnea and hemoptysis. Bronchioalveolar lavage and right lung biopsy under general anes...

A 70-year-old man developed severe periorbital edema secondary to imatinib mesylate (Gleevec; Novartis Pharmaceuticals Corp, East Hanover, NJ). Imatinib mesylate is a tyrosine kinase inhibitor with a high degree of specificity for the BCRABL, KIT, and platelet-derived growth factor receptor tyrosine kinases. It is thought that inhibition of platelet-derived growth factor receptor results in dis...

full textThe clinical challenges of the equine periorbital sarcoid
The equine sarcoid affects horses of all ages, types, and colours without obvious sex predilection and is commonly encountered worldwide. It is by far the commonest equine skin neoplasm (Jackson, 1936; Thomsett, 1979; Pascoe and Summers, 1981; Genetzky, Biwer and Myers, 1983; Marti, Lazary and Gerber, 1993; Broström, 1995). Although the sarcoid has been recognised for centuries (Erk, 1976), it ...
