Abstract:

This paper presents an optimal method of frequency load shedding (UFLS) based on the rate of change of frequency of load (ROCOFL) in islanded distribution networks (DN). The proposed method minimizes the average amount of penalties paid by the independent operator of the network by utilizing the relevant cost function. The function of islanded distribution network occurs after an error in the sub-transmission network and separation from the upstream network, in an emergency condition, is one of the most important facts that has been recently addressed. The use of installed intelligent equipment to measure and send information, related to power, frequency, frequency changes, voltage range, and condition of generator switches makes it possible to provide an appropriate protection for the islanded networks. The under frequency load shedding is used to improve the network frequency due to the imbalance in the network. In this paper, it is tried to use the two proposed control modules to eliminate the optimal load with the consideration of the minimum penalty. The method presented in this paper is evaluated in the sample network of 14-bus Danish distribution network.

An Improved Under-Frequency Load Shedding Scheme in Distribution Networks with Distributed Generation

When a distribution network consisting of Distributed Generations (DGs) is disconnected from upstream network, the system may be exposed to severe power imbalance. In order to prevent the damage of power plants, frequency relays operate and remove DGs from the network. In contrast to traditional methods, the main objective in new methods is to keep DG units in service in the islanded distributi...

Smart load shedding in distribution networks considering the importance of loads

One of the most important tasks of operators in distribution companies is to restoration after a fault in the network. In load restoration schemes, in addition to observing the load flow constraints, it is necessary to maintain the grid structure radially and, most importantly, observing the balance of consumption with the possibility of providing load due to the limitations of the backup feede...

A Fuzzy Based Under-Frequency Load Shedding Scheme for Islanded Distribution Network Connected with DG

The frequency of power system is very sensitive to load changing when operating in islanded mode. This may causes overloading or loss of generation cases. Under-Frequency Load Shedding (UFLS) Scheme is commonly applied to stabilize the frequency during these cases. Conventional UFLS scheme operates successfully in interconnected grid system and may not work well when applied to DG based system ...

Optimal Setting Sor Under Frequency Load Shedding Relays Using Mixed Integer Linear Programming

After occurrence of some disturbances in power system that causes the sever imbalance between generation power and electrical load, the power system frequency begins to decrease. To prevent power system frequency instability and stop the frequency decay below the power system allowable frequency limitation, load shedding schemes should be utilized by applying under frequency load shedding relay...
