Abstract:

Introduction: Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is a common psychiatric ‎disorder among school age children. Late diagnosis can cause bad side effect in their children ‎and young adolescent’s social, occupational and educational relationships. It’s obvious that ‎mothers’ knowledge can have an effect on follow up process.‎ Objective: The goal of this study is to determine the level of mothers’ knowledge regarding ‎ADHD.‎ Methods: This is a descriptive study and its sample consisted of ‎‏60‏‎ mothers whose children ‎were diagnosed with ADHD during first three months of ‎‏2008‏‎ and were reffered to ‎Educational center of Shafa in Rasht. Study instrument was a questionnaire and results were ‎analyzed by descriptive statistics. ‎ Results: Findings showed that the majority of samples (‎‏68%‏‎) had moderate knowledge ‎regarding the disease. ‎ Conclusion: Due to moderate knowledge level/giving more education regarding children's ‎mental health is necessary. ‎
