Abstract:

Background and Objective: Helicobacter Pylori (H. pylori) is one of the reasons for the gastric inflammation and peptic ulcers. It is a predisposing factor of gastric adenocarcinoma. Cytotoxin A encoded by the cagA gene is one of the major virulence factors in bacterial pathogenicity, which is of special importance due to genetic diversity in different geographical areas. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the prevalence of the cagA gene in the patients suffering from gastric ulcers. Materials and Methods: Seventy-five paraffin blocks of stomach biopsy samples from patients infected with H. pylori and suffering from gastric ulcers were randomly evaluated in the province of Kermanshah in the spring of 2016, Iran. DNA samples extracted by the boiling method were investigated using PCR by the use of particular primer pairs for a protected area in the glmM gene, and the existence of the cagA gene. Results: From the 75 samples, 56 cases (%74.66) were glmM-positive and among them, 39 cases (%69.64) tested positive for cagA gene. Comparing patients in terms of gender, the frequency of the cagA gene was 22 (%39.28) and 17 (%30.35) in males and females, respectively. Finally, comparing patients in terms of age, 16 cases (%21.33) were younger than 40 years old and 23 cases (%41.07) were older than 40 years old. Conclusion: The results of this study showed significant association between the frequency of the cagA gene and peptic ulcer in the studied patients.

Presence of cagA Gene in Patients with Gastric Cancer and Gastritis with Helicobacter pylori Infection

Background and purpose: Helicobacter pylori is a gram-negative, micro-aerophilic, and spiral-shaped bacillus. Infection with this bacterium can lead to gastritis, ulcers, and even gastric cancer. This study was conducted to evaluate the presence of the cagA gene among patients with gastritis and gastric cancer. Materials and methods: This study was performed in patients with gastritis (n=40) a...

Prevalence of EPIYA motifs in Helicobacter pylori strains isolated from patients with gastroduodenal disorders in northern Iran

Background: Cytotoxin-associated gene A (CagA)-positive strains of Helicobacter pylori are associated with gastroduodenal diseases. Evidences have suggested that the type of H pylori CagA EPIYA motifs may be associated with specific disorders (i.e., gastritis, peptic ulcer, or gastric cancer).  We investigated the prevalence of different EPIYA motifs (A, B, C, or D) in H. pylori strains is...

تعیین ژنوتیپ سوشهای هلیکوباکتر پیلوری جدا شده از بیماران مبتلا به زخم معده یا بدون زخم معده بر اساس الگوی RFLP-PCRژنهای ureAB, vacA وcagA

Introduction & Objective: Different studies show that the reasons for clinically diverse outcomes of infections caused by H. pylori may include host and environmental factors as well as differences in the prevalence or expression of bacterial virulence factors. The aim of this study was to study the distribution of different genotypes of major virulence factors cagA, vacA and ureAB among H. p...

Prevalence of Helicobacter pylori vacA, cagA and iceA genotypes in Nigerian patients with duodenal ulcer disease.

Distinct virulence factors of Helicobacter pylori have been associated with clinical outcome of the infection; however, considerable variations have been reported from different geographic regions. Data on genotypes of African H. pylori isolates are sparse. The aim of this study was to determine the prevalence of specific genotypes of H. pylori in Nigerian patients with duodenal ulcer and non-u...

Prevalence of Pathogenic Genes cagA and vacA of Helicobacter pylori Isolated in Patients with Digestive Disorders

Background and Aims: Helicobacter pylori is the main cause of various gastroduodenal diseases. It is estimated that app roximately, more than half of the adult population in developed countries and 90% of people in developing countries infected with H. pylori. H. pylori infection may be related to Genetic of virulence factors and environmental factors. The aim of this study was to assess of fre...

Prevalence of Helicobacter pylori in NSAID users with gastric ulcer.

OBJECTIVE Regarding the interaction of Helicobacter pylori and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), we cannot accept unanimous conclusions in inducing gastric ulcer. We therefore evaluated the role of Helicobacter pylori and NSAIDs in inducing gastric ulcer. METHODS Dyspeptic patients receiving NSAIDs underwent endoscopic examination. Gastric ulcer formation and H. pylori status we...
