Abstract:

Haemangioma is a benign tumor of vascular endothelial cells or their progenitors. In spring of 2016, an Acipenser baerii, (+3 years, 2.2 kg weight) was reffered to the Department of Aquatic Animal Health, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Shahid Chamran University of Ahvaz. After dissection it was found that the heart had a cobblestone appearance which was characterized by multiple dark red cysts with different sizes (2-5 mm). According to microscopic results, epicardial cavernous hemangioma was diagnosed. To the best of the author’s knowledge, this is the first report of primary epicardial cavernous hemangioma in Acipenser baerii.

Epicardial cavernous hemangioma: a two-case report.

AIMS We report two-cases of cavernous hemangiomas arising from the epicardium in two women aged respectively 24 and 79 years old. The first patient was symptomatic and presented with palpitations. The second patient was referred after a random discovery at echocardiography. Chest CT and MRI were performed in the two cases and showed a mass located in the pericardial cavity. Coronary CT was nece...

Electrical excitability of the heart in a Chondrostei fish, the Siberian sturgeon (Acipenser baerii).

Sturgeon (family Acipenseridae) are regarded as living fossils due to their ancient origin and exceptionally slow evolution. To extend our knowledge of fish cardiac excitability to a Chondrostei fish, we examined electrophysiological phenotype of the Siberian sturgeon (Acipenser baerii) heart with recordings of epicardial ECG, intracellular action potentials (APs), and sarcolemmal ion currents....

Testing taxonomic boundaries and the limit of DNA barcoding in the Siberian sturgeon, Acipenser baerii.

DNA barcoding efforts involving animals have focused on the mitochondrial cytochrome c oxidase subunit I (Cox1) gene. Some authors suggest that this marker might under-diagnose young species. Herein, we examine Cox1 and control region diversity in a sample of Siberian sturgeon (Acipenser baerii), a species with an extremely wide geographic distribution in the major rivers of Siberia and in Lake...

Case Report: Median Nerve Cavernous Hemangioma

Hemangiomas of the median nerve are extremely rare; only 12 cases have been reported in the literature. We discuss a patient who presented with paresthesia and pain along the distribution of the left median nerve secondary to a cavernoma of the proximal part of the nerve as suspected on MRI scan. Total removal of the mass was achieved with immediate relief of the symptoms and no neurologic defi...

Expression of growth hormone gene during early development of Siberian sturgeon (Acipenser baerii)

The mRNA expression of growth hormone (GH) gene in early development stages of Siberian sturgeon was investigated using RT-PCR method. Samples were collected from unfertilized eggs up to 50 days post hatched (dph) larvae in 11 different times. Ribosomal protein L6 (RPL6) transcripts were used as the internal standard during quantification of GH mRNA expression. The results showed that the GH mR...
