The Evaluation of Diagnostic Values of RelatedMarkers in Keratocystic Odontogenic Tumor’s Angiogenesis
Authors
Abstract:
Introduction: Odontogenic tumors include a variety of lesions that are classified from hamartomas to benign and malignant neoplasms. Angiogenesis process helps neoplastic tissue to gain an adequate supply of oxygen and also to remove the waste products. Mean Vessel Density (MVD) evaluation is a common method for assessing angiogenesis by using different markers. To the best of our knowledge, there is no specific marker for angiogenesis evaluation, so the aim of this study is to determine the proper angiogenic marker. Materials and methods: In this cross sectional study, the MVD was assessed 45 cases totally; 15 cases in each group. Data were analyzed by using independent t-test and one-way ANOVA (P<0.05). Results: There are statistically significant differences between CD34 and CD105 (P=0.028), CD34 and VEGF (P=0.001) and, CD105 and VEGF (P=0.001). CD34 has the lowest sensitivity, and VEGF has the highest sensitivity among others. Conclusion: The results suggest that VEGF could be a better marker for assessing angiogenic tissue.

Diagnostic and treatment features of keratocystic odontogenic tumors
Keratocystic odontogenic tumors (KCOT) comprise a unique pathological entity characterized by aggressive/destructive behavior and propensity to recurrence. This study describes the diagnostic and treatment features of a KCOT lesion. A 22-year old man was referred for surgical treatment of pericoronitis on tooth no. 37. Panoramic radiography revealed a unilocular, large radiolucent area extendin...

PURPOSE The aim of this retrospective study is to determine the radiological features of keratocystic odontogenic tumors (KCOT) using cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT). MATERIALS AND METHODS CBCT images of 28 patients who had histopathologically-confirmed KCOT were retrospectively reviewed from the archives of the Department of Dentomaxillofacial Radiology, Gazi University Faculty of Denti...

BACKGROUND It has been widely demonstrated that the hedgehog pathway is strongly associated with basal cell carcinoma of the skin (NBCCS). To assess potential DNA alterations related to keratocystic odontogenic tumors (KCOTs), we sequenced smoothened (SMO) genes in 12 sporadic KCOTs. METHODS Polymerase chain reaction (PCR), capillary electrophoresis and dideoxy chain-termination sequencing we...
full textExploring the concept of “inflammatory angiogenesis” in keratocystic odontogenic tumor
OBJECTIVE The aim of the present study was to investigate the role of inflammation in angiogenesis of keratocystic odontogenic tumor (KCOT). STUDY DESIGN Twenty inflamed and 20 non-inflamed KCOTs were selected based on quantitative scoring of inflammation which was also applied on 20 radicular cysts. Microvessel density was assessed in all samples using CD34 antibody and angiogenesis was comp...
full textThe incidence of satellite cysts in keratocystic odontogenic tumors.
Renaming of the Odontogenic Keratocyst as the Keratocystic Odontogenic Tumor by the World Health Organization (WHO) is based on the aggressive nature of this lesion. Satellite cysts founded in the walls of the original cysts may give rise to a new lesion formation. The aim of this retrospecitve study was to identify the existence of specific features according incidence of satellite cysts and t...
