Abstract:

The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of lactobacillus plantarum probiotic in diet on some nutritional indices as well as survival rate in Siberian sturgeon (Acipenser baerii). This research were randomly designed in three treatment and one control groups in three replications with probiotic-contained diet, e.g. 107, 108 and 109 probiotic bacterial cells per gram food and the control group with no probiotic, which were treated for 60 days and then evaluated. 240 numbers of 37.666 ±1.094g of Siberian sturgeon were randomly distributed on 12 fiberglass ponds. Results showed that the used probiotic bacteria was able to strengthen the growth parameters (weight, FCR and PER) and significant increase in PER indicators and significant reduction in PER in treated with probiotics groups compared with the control group. In this study, the treatment with log8 L. plantarum indicated significant differences between all treatments and control. The survival rate in all treated and control groups were 100 percent. The results showed that the L. plantarum probiotic work as a growth promoter in Siberian sturgeon.

Morphological and Histological Study of Kidney in Juvenile Great Sturgeon (Huso huso) and Persian Sturgeon (Acipenser persicus)

Sturgeons are ancient and commercial fishes which posses’ primitive characteristics and due to their great inflections are able to live in both freshwater and marine environments. So their kidney has great ability for adaptation process. In order to find the structure and distribution of kidney nephrons in juvenile Huso huso and Acipensr persicus, sampling of head, body and caudal parts of kidn...

Lactococcus lactis subsp. lactis infection in Bester sturgeon, a cultured hybrid of Huso huso × Acipenser ruthenus, in Taiwan.

Approximately 5300 hybrid sturgeons with an average body weight of 600-800 g were farmed in 3 round tankers measuring 3m in diameter each containing 28,000 L of aerated groundwater. According to the owner's description, the diseased fish had anorexia, pale body color, and reddish spots on the abdomen. The morbidity and lethality rates in this outbreak were about 70% (3706/5300) and 100% (3706/3...

The effect of dietary dextrin levels on growth performance, body composition and hepatosomatic index in juvenile Siberian sturgeon, Acipenser baerii

The present study was carried out to determine the ability of Acipenser baerii in utilizing carbohydrate (dextrin) as a non protein energy source substituted with animal oil. A total of 65 juveniles A. baerii with an initial mean weight of 689 ± 62 g were distributed in 15 fiber glass tanks. Five diets were formulated including 0, 5, 10, 15 and 20% of dextrin and fed  for 8 weeks. Fish were wei...

Heteroplasmy in the mtDNA control region of sturgeon (Acipenser, Huso and Scaphirhynchus).

Data from 1238 fishes from 19 sturgeon species and 1 paddlefish were used to analyze heteroplasmy in sturgeon. Lengths of central repeat units ranged from 74 to 83 bp among sturgeon species. No repeat sequence was found in the paddlefish, Polyodon spathula. A general feature of the repeat units was the presence of termination associated sequence (TAS) motifs. About 50% of 138 interspecific muta...

Effect of freezing rate on motility, adenosine triphosphate content and fertilizability in beluga sturgeon (Huso huso) spermatozoa.

Broodstock selection programs are currently underway for sturgeon species. To complement and further these selection programs we need to develop sperm cryopreservation procedures. In the present study, we describe the effects of freezing rate (-10°C, -15°C, -20°C, -30°C and -40°C/min) on gamete quality characteristics (i.e., duration of motility (s), motility percentage (%), ATP content (nmol/1...
