The Cytotoxic and Synergistic Effects of Flavonoid Derivatives on Doxorubicin Cytotoxicity in Hela, MDA-MB-231, and HT-29 Cancer Cells
Authors
Abstract:
Background: Flavonoids have a variety of biological activities, such as anti-allergic, anti-inflammatory, anti-oxidative, free radical scavenging, and anti-mutagenic. Methods: The cytotoxic effects of three synthesized flavonoid derivatives (K3, K4 and K5) were evaluated against Hela , MDA-MB -231 and HT-29 cancer cells using MTT assay. Results: The results showed that these flavonoids were not cytotoxic at any tested concentrations (0.1, 0.05, 0.01, and 0.001 mM). To evaluate the possible synergistic effect of synthetic flavonoids with chemotherapeutic agent, the compound (K4) was examined against Hela and MDA-MB-231 cells in combination with different concentrations of doxorubicin (0.01 and 0.001mM). This combination treatment significantly increased the cytotoxicity of doxorubicin (P < 0.05). Conclusion: Synthesized flavonoids could be used either in combination therapy with other chemotherapeutic agents or used as antioxidants in food supplements.

full textEvaluation of cytotoxic effects of condition medium from amniotic epithelial cells on cancer cell lines HeLa and MDA-MB-231
Introduction: Amniotic membrane, the innermost layer of extra-embryonic tissue, contains mesenchymal and epithelial stem cells. The amniotic mesenchymal cells have the capability of inhibition of growth of cancer cells. In this research, the effects of amniotic epithelial cells on the viability of cancer cells and the role of apoptosis in this procedure were evaluated. Methods: Amniotic mem...
full textEffects of cold atmospheric plasma on viability of breast (MDA-MB-231) and cervical (Hela) cancer cells
Introduction: There are many reports published about the use of cold atmospheric plasma in cancer treatment recently. In this way, the selective effects of cold plasma on the breast (MDA-MB-231) and cervical (Hela) cancer cells were studied as a new cancer treatment method. Materials and Methods: In this study, cold atmospheric pressure plasma was generated using a plasma jet reactor and also o...

full textDesign, synthesis and cytotoxic effects of curcuminoids on HeLa, K562, MCF-7 and MDA-MB-231 cancer cell lines
BACKGROUND Curcumin is one of the leading compound extracted from the dry powder of Curcuma longa (Zingiberaceae family), which possess several pharmacological properties. However, in vivo administration exhibited limited applications in cancer therapies. RESULTS Twenty-four curcumin derivatives have synthesized, which comprises cyclohexanone 1-10, acetone 11-17 and cyclopentanone 18-24 serie...
full textEffect of Peptide Derived from Scorpion Toxin on Enhanced Permeability of Doxorubicin Conjugated Gold Nanoparticles in HeLa and MDA-MB-231 Cells
Background: Cell penetrating peptides (CPPs) can enter a cell through the cell membrane, and used in the fields of drug delivery, gene therapy, and cancer therapy by their property transporting various molecules into cytoplasm. Gold nanospheres (GNSs) are a useful tool for molecular imaging, because they are not cytotoxic and have high solubility, excellent light scattering property and ease of...
