The comparative effects of dietary supplementation with Pediococcus acidilactici and Enterococcus faecium on feed utilization, various health-related characteristics and yersiniosis in rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss Walbaum, 1792)
Authors
Abstract:
This study examined the effects of feeding of two dietary probiotics on growth performance and feed utilization, intestinal colonization and related health criteria, biochemical parameters, hematological indices, and immune parameters and protection against Yersinia ruckeri in Oncorhynchus mykiss during a period of 56 days. The study included 3 groups:1(a control group of fish, 2) a group of fish fed with a basal commercial diet supplemented with 2 × 106 CFU g-1 Pediococcus acidilactici (PA-group and 3) a group of fish fed with a basal commercial diet supplemented with 2.5 × 108 CFU g–1 Enterococcus faecium strain IR5 (EF-group). Each group was run in triplicate. The PA-group and EF-group showed significant improvement with respect to WG, SGR, FCR, PER, lactic acid bacteria (LAB) (%) in intestinal, intestinal colonization (log CFU g–1), survival (%), RBCs, WBCs, hematocrit percentage (Hct %), and respiratory burst activity (RBA) levels, each of which was significantly higher than that in the control group (p < /span>

full textEffects of dietary Bacillus subtilis on growth performance and immune responses, in rainbow trout, Oncorhynchus mykiss (Walbaum, 1792)
Four hundred and eighty five rainbow trout (76 ± 6.44 g mean weight) were acclimated to laboratory conditions and then randomly divided into four groups of tanks in triplicate. The first group (Group 1) was fed on a commercial diet (control) without Bacillus subtilis supplementation. The second, third and fourth groups (Group 2, Group 3 and Group 4, respectively) were given a diet supplemented ...

full textGills as morphological biomarkers in extensive and intensive rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss, Walbaum 1792) production technologies
We investigated environmental impacts on rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) reared at fish farms with either extensive technology, in a flow-through system (FTS, n = 3), or intensive technology, in a recirculating aquaculture system (RAS, n = 3). All fish were fed the same rations. Fish were caught in spring and autumn (body mass, 501-750 g) from these six farms. We performed macroscopic (inta...

A 10-week feeding experiment was conducted to evaluate the effects of feeding level, energy and protein maintenance requirement of rainbow trout, Oncorhynchus mykiss, fingerling (5.65±0.45cm; 1.42 ±0.25g) by feeding casein-gelatin based purified diet (45% CP; 3.67 kcal g-1 GE) at six feeding levels 2-7% of BW/day in two equal meals, at 0800 and 1700 h, in triplicate, with 20 fish per trough fi...
full textCorrection: Skeletal Anomaly Monitoring in Rainbow Trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss, Walbaum 1792) Reared under Different Conditions
The incidence of skeletal anomalies could be used as an indicator of the "quality" of rearing conditions as these anomalies are thought to result from the inability of homeostatic mechanisms to compensate for environmentally-induced stress and/or altered genetic factors. Identification of rearing conditions that lower the rate of anomalies can be an important step toward profitable aquaculture ...
