Abstract:

To investigate template effect on physicochemical properties of zeolite and enhance the molecular sieving properties, adsorption of methionine amino acid was studied by spectroscopic methods. Four zeolites such as methionine templated analcime, methionine templated zeolite P, N, N-dibenzyl N,N,N,N-tetramethylethylenediamine (DBTMED) templated analcime and free template analcime were synthesized as adsorbents and characterized with scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Fourier transformation infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and N2 adsorptiondesorption analyses. The influence of methionine concentration and pH on the adsorption ability of zeolites was examined; furthermore, the adsorption isotherms of methionine on zeolites were studied and the experimental data were fitted with Freundlich and Langmuir equations in order to obtain sorption parameters. The results indicated that the adsorption of amino acid was not only depended on zeolites surface areas but also on their pore size. The existence of template in zeolite synthesis could help enlarging the pore size and enhancing the adsorption ability.

Assessment of Dust Holding Capacity of Nanofiber Media and Its Ability to Capture Synthetic Dust

Background and Aim: Evaluation of the performance of these products is mainly based on their efficiency in numerical removal of particles in the range of different sizes. While the most important features of filters are the dust holding capacity, and the ability to remove the mass of particles with different densities, fewer studies have addressed this issue. Therefore, the present study evalua...

A new Method for the Removal of Ammonium from Drinking Water Using Hybrid Method of Modified Zeolites / Catalytic Ozonation

Introduction: Ammonia in form of ammonium ions is toxic and could decrease the dissolved oxygen in water and endanger the aquatic life. The aim of this study is the removal of ammonium using oxidation and adsorption by catalytic ozonation and clinoptilolite zeolite, respectively. Methods: The research method is Experimental. First, optimal pH of ammonium adsorption on carbon catalyst (5 g/L), ...

Sonoporation as an enhancing method for boron neutron capture therapy for squamous cell carcinomas

BACKGROUND Boron neutron capture therapy (BNCT) is a selective radiotherapy that is dependent on the accumulation of ¹⁰B compound in tumors. Low-intensity ultrasound produces a transient pore on cell membranes, sonoporation, which enables extracellular materials to enter cells. The effect of sonoporation on BNCT was examined in oral squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) xenografts in nude mice. MATER...

Asynchronous Online Discussion Forum: A Key to Enhancing Students’ Writing Ability and Attitudes in Iran

This paper focuses on the impact of an asynchronous online discussion forum on the development of students’ ability in and attitudes toward writing in English. Two groups of third-year students (N = 60) majoring in English were assigned to two treatment and control groups, each receiving different types of feedback. Students in the treatment group were required to participate ...

Enhancing the GA's Ability to Cope with Dynamic Environments

The Shifting Balance Genetic Algorithm (SBGA) is a pluggable module for a GA (or any other Evolutionary Algorithm) based on a modification of Sewall Wright’s shifting balance theory. The SBGA is intended to enhance a GA’s ability to adapt to a changing environment. Here we describe the detailed mechanisms required to implement the SBGA as well as an experiment that shows that the SBGA not only ...
