Tachykinin stimulates α-amylase, protease and lipase activities in the midgut of the American cockroach, Periplaneta americana (Blattodea: Blattidae)
author
Abstract:

full textAnalyses of the mouthpart kinematics in Periplaneta americana (Blattodea, Blattidae) using synchrotron-based X-ray cineradiography.
The kinematics of the biting and chewing mouthparts of insects is a complex interaction of various components forming multiple jointed chains. The non-invasive technique of in vivo cineradiography by means of synchrotron radiation was employed to elucidate the motion cycles of the mouthparts in the cockroach Periplaneta americana. Digital X-ray footage sequences were used in order to calculate ...
full textDopamine stimulates salivary duct cells in the cockroach Periplaneta americana.
This study examines whether the salivary duct cells of the cockroach Periplaneta americana can be stimulated by the neurotransmitters dopamine and serotonin. We have carried out digital Ca2+-imaging experiments using the Ca2+-sensitive dye fura-2 and conventional intracellular recordings from isolated salivary glands. Dopamine evokes a slow, almost tonic, and reversible dose-dependent elevation...
full textGenetic Analysis of Periplaneta americana (Blattodea: Blattidae) in Central Texas Using the ITS1 Region
American cockroaches, Periplaneta americana (Blattodea: Blattidae) (L.), are common pests of urban environments. Analyzing spatial distribution of P. americana populations in an artificial, outdoor environment provided insight of gene flow among populations collected in central Texas. This information provides a better understanding of how and if populations were segregated, or if there was a s...
full textEpidemiology and Spatial Relationships of Bacteria Associated with Periplaneta americana (Blattodea: Blattidae) in Central Texas
Identifying cockroach (Order: Blattodea) populations is important to understanding the ability of surrogate species indirectly affecting humans by their ability to vector disease-causing organisms including bacteria. These interactions may have potentially deleterious health consequences on animal and/or human populations. In this study, American cockroaches, Periplaneta americana were sampled ...
