Study on Some Effective Factors for Successful Non-Surgical Reduction in Intussusception among Children
Authors
Abstract:
Background Intussusception is the main cause of bowel obstruction and one of the most common surgical emergencies that can occur during childhood. That is why this study investigates the effective factors for non-surgical reduction in patients who have experienced successful reduction in intussusception to determine the effective factors. Materials and Methods This retrospective study was performed between 2011 and 2017. The following subjects, including age, gender, degree of reduction, leukocyte level, symptom onset interval, Appearance of Signs and the Visit of Children, presence of blood in stool, free abdominal fluid in ultrasound, and length of the intestinal tract involved in ultrasonography, were extracted. Results A total of 217 patients with intussusception had visited the emergency department. The average of the leukocyte level of children with successful intussusception non-surgical reduction was lesser the children with unsuccessful intussusception non-surgical reduction and there was a significant difference (P

Ultrasound Guided Saline Hydrostatic Reduction: A Non-Surgical Procedure for the Management of Intussusception in Children
Introduction: Intussusception is the most common cause of intestinal obstruction in infant & toddler age group. Intussusception is the telescoping of one segment of bowel into the contiguous distal segment. Peak age incidence is between 2 months to 3 years of life. Objective of the study: To prove the efficacy of Ultrasound guided saline hydrostatic reduction, a non surgical, non radiation meth...

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE With the advent of laparoscopy into pediatric surgical filed and with experience gaining, as well as, improvement in instrumentation, it has been used in management of different conditions, including intussusception. However, there is no universal acceptance regarding its role in reduction of intussusception. This is due to the early reports of high conversion rate and ...

China introduced a new policy regarding the management of antibiotic use. We evaluated the reasonableness of antibiotic use among children suffering from intussusception before and after policy. A retrospective study was conducted involving 234 young children with intussusception who were treated between January 1, 2011 and December 30, 2013. Demographics and detailed antibiotics regimens were ...

Barium enema hydrostatic reduction was carried out for eight patients with Intussusception over a six-month period There were five successes (62%) and three failures. There were no mortality or complications arising out of this procedure. The technique is discussed This procedure offers many advantagesover surgicalreduction. However, it is not a substitute for surgery which is still indicated i...
full textAn air insufflation device for reduction of intussusception in children
The authors have developed a portable device for insufflation of air reliably at pressures accepted as safe for effective reduction of intussusception in children under fluoroscopic guidance. The results of reduction with the device were equal to those by saline enema reduction under ultrasound guidance.

INTRODUCTION Intussusception is a common abdominal emergency in early childhood. It is idiopathic in more than 90% of cases with incidence of 1.5-4 per 1,000 live births. The treatment of choice is nonoperative hydrostatic or air enema reduction. OBJECTIVE The aim of the study was to evaluate the influence of clinical presentation and symptom duration in non-operative treatment, considering t...
