Abstract:

In order to measure serum copper concentration, 163 adult males working at different units of copper plant from a total population of 671, were selected by simple random sampling. Eighty three subjects working at melting foundry, 49 in extrugen- rolling and 31 at administrative service untils. Eighty four adult male natives of Kerman and it's suburbs were randomly choosen as control group, serum copper concentration was determined from measuring serum ceruloplasmin concentration by spectrophotometric method. The mean serum copper concentrations in all three groups u under studies were significantly higher than controls ( p<0.05). The high level of serum copper in administrative, service group who were not derictly involved in copper works compare to other groups may be  the results of two events: 1) lower excretion rate of copper via sweat as a result of cooler work environment and 2) absorbing less zinc oxide vapour( compared with the other two groups) due to interference with copper absorption.

Seasonal variations of serum copper concentration in Raeini cashmere goats

The aim of this study is to determine the serum copper (Cu) concentration found in Iranian Raeini cashmere goats in different seasonal and climatic conditions. Twenty four male (6 to 18 months old) and 48 female (6 to 18 and 18 to 30 months old) Raeini goats were selected from the station, rural, and nomadic flocks. The average Cu concentrations among the male and female goats were 0.5 ± 0.04 a...

Determination of zinc serum in the workers of sarcheshme copper complex

Zinc is one of the essential elements in biological system. The role of this element in many enzymes has been proved. Zinc has an antagonistic effect on the toxic elements such as cadmium, as both binds to a carrier protein called metalothionein . Zinc can be found in atmosphere of different industrial environment. Due to its importance, it's concentration in the serum of 399 Male workers of sa...

Serum copper concentration significantly less in abnormal pregnancies.

We estimated copper concentration in maternal serum during 244 normal and 15 abnormal pregnancies. Values were lower in the abnormal pregnancies than in the normal ones, and did not vary with gestational age between 15 to 18 weeks in normal pregnancies.

Association between Serum Copper Status and Working Memory in Schoolchildren

Trace elements such as copper are essential micronutrients. Traditionally, copper has been studied in the context of micronutrient deficiencies. Recent studies in both animals and humans, however, have revealed that elevated blood copper can also have adverse effects on cognitive function since free copper can cross the blood-brain barrier and subsequently impose oxidative stress to neuronal ce...

Hot Corrosion Behavior of Magnesite – Chromite Refractories Used in Reverberatory Furnaces at Sarcheshmeh Copper Complex

Iran’s Sarcheshmeh copper industries with an annual production of 120,000 tones are the biggest of it’s kind in South Asia. The main method of production is pyrometallurgical matte making in two reverberatory furnaces which use direct–bond magnesite-chromite refractories supplied by German and Austrian companies. Following a recent major overhaul, bricks in contact with slag, matte and furnace ...
