Abstract:

In this research, hydrodynamic behavior of a leaky dielectric droplet under an electric field is simulated. The level set method is used for interface tracking and the ghost fluid method is used for modeling discontinuous quantities at interface. Using Taylor’s leaky dielectric model, electric field and electric force at the interface is calculated. Simulation results show the droplet deformation and induced flows inside and outside the droplet under an electric field. Droplet deformation dependent on the electric conductivity and electric permittivity ratio of droplet and surrounding fluid can be as elongation in electric field direction or perpendicular to it. The effect of electric conductivity ratio and viscosity ratio on hydrodynamic behavior of droplet is studied. According to the results, increase in these quantities increases the deformation of droplet. Also, the enhancement rate of droplet deformation is decreased by enhancement of electric conductivity ratio and viscosity ratio.

Deformation of a droplet in an electric field: nonlinear transient response in perfect and leaky dielectric media.

Deformation of a fluid drop, suspended in a second immiscible fluid, under the influence of an imposed electric field is a widely studied phenomenon. In this paper, the system is analyzed numerically to assess its dynamic behavior. The response of the system to a step change in the electric field is simulated for both perfect and leaky dielectric systems, exploring the influence of the fluid, i...

EFFECT OF ELECTRIC FIELD ON PD ACTIVITY AND DAMAGE INTO SOLID DIELECTRIC MATERIALS

Abstract – In this paper, the effect of applied electric field on the damage due to partial discharges activity into the surroundings dielectrics of a narrow channel encapsulated within the volume of a dielectric material is evaluated using a kinetic model based on Particle in Cell - Monte Carlo Collision (PIC-MCC) model. After application of an electric field across a dielectric material which...

Effect of Semicon-Dielectric Interface on Conductivity and Electric Field Distribution

Development of solid dielectric de transmission class cable has become a priority throughout much of the world. Interdiffusion between the semiconducting electrode materials and the dielectric inevitably causes variations in conductivity of the dielectric near the semicon which results in distortion of the electric field and space charge formation under de conditions. Analytical approximations ...

Rhythmic motion of a droplet under a dc electric field.

The effect of a stationary electric field on a water droplet with a diameter of several tens micrometers in oil was examined. Such a droplet exhibits repetitive translational motion between the electrodes in a spontaneous manner. The state diagram of this oscillatory motion was deduced; at 0-20 V the droplet is fixed at the surface of the electrode, at 20-70 V the droplet exhibits small-amplitu...
