STUDIES ON THE TISSUE SPECIFICITY OF COLONY STIMULATING FACTOR

Authors: not saved
Abstract:

In this study granulocyte-macrophage colony stimulating factor (CSF) was prepared from rabbit and guinea pig lung tissues. The biological activity of these CSFs was measured on semisolid agar culture and compared with those of mouse and rat. Weight of animals, incubation time and cross-reactivity of CSFs with different bone marrow sources were also investigated. The results showed that both rabbit and guinea pig lung tissues produced and released CSF in the conditioned medium. The CSFs were active on ammonium chloride treated bone marrow cells from balblc mouse and on their own ammonium chloride treated bone marrow cells but could not stimulate the progenitor cells from other sources

THE EFFECT OF THEOPHYLLINE ON THE PRODUCTION OF COLONY STIMULATING FACTOR (CSF)BY THE LUNG

The effect of theophylline on colony stimulating factor production by the lung tissue was investigated. Addition of various concentrations of theophylline to the lung conditioned medium enhanced CSF production at 10 µg/ml and at higher concentrations showed an inhibitory effect. Determination of the phosphate content of the medium showed a decrease at 1-3 hours of incubation. Addition of A...

THE ROLE OF ALVEOLAR MACROPHAGES IN THE PRODUCTION OF COLONY –STIMULATING FACTOR BY THE LUNG

The role of alveolar macrophages in the production of granulocyte/ macrophage colony-stimulating factor(s) by the rat lung was investigated. Lavaged lungs, when incubated at proper weight per volume of culture medium, produced the same amount of colony-stimulating factor as unlavaged ones. Both lavaged and unlavaged lungs produced similar types of colony-stimulating factor (s). Prolonged i...

Granulocyte colony-stimulating factor.

In the background section of their abstract, Woei-Cherng Shyu and associates state that because granulocyte colony-stimulating factor (G-CSF) has anti-inflammatory and neuroprotective properties and the capacity to mobilize stem cells, it has the potential to be used in treatment of stroke. However, there are limited data about the effects of G-CSF on hemostasis. It has been suggested that G-CS...

Granulocyte colony stimulating factor.

Granulocyte colony-stimulating factor was discovered during attempts to define the normal regulators present in cell supernatants that could induce terminal differentiation of the murine myeloid leukemic cell line WEHI-3B D+. The purification and subsequent cloning of both murine and human G-CSF allowed the normal functions of this molecule to be elucidated and indicated that it was a relativel...
