Abstract:

The aim of this study was to investigate the hemagglutination properties of caprine herpesvirus-1(CpHV-1) and their application for CpHV-1 antigen detection and evaluation of the dynamics of postinfectious/vaccine antibody production. CpHV-1 hemagglutination activity was proved only with mouseerythrocytes, PBS and saline solutions at 4°C and 22°C. In vaccinated animals, goats and bucks withrespiratory and genital clinical symptoms the antibody titers obtained by microtiter virus neutralization test(MVNT) were significantly higher (P

Hemagglutination with crane herpesvirus.

A crane herpesvirus (CrHV) grown in chicken embryo fibroblast (CEF) cells was tested for hemagglutination (HA) with erythrocytes from a variety of species at 4 degrees C, room temperature and 37 degrees C. HA was observed at all temperatures with erythrocytes from mouse, ddY and BALB/c strains, but not with those from cattle, sheep and chicken. Mice, ddY strain, showed an individual variation i...

First Description of Infection of Caprine Herpesvirus 1 (CpHV-1) in Goats in Mainland France

The purpose of this study was to investigate the epidemiological situation of the caprine herpesvirus 1 (CpHV-1) infection in nine districts in mainland France, mostly in the south, near Italy or Spain, where high seroprevalence has been observed. Two more central areas were also included in the study. The serosurvey was carried out in 9564 goats (275 herds) using bovine herpesvirus 1 (BoHV-1) ...

Studies on herpesvirus infections of goats in Turkey : prevalence of antibodies to bovine herpesvirus 1

Herpesvirus infections of domestic ruminants are about economic losses due to respiratory and reproductive problems. Bovine herpesvirus 1 (BHV-1) is a major pathogen of bovines world-wide and causes different clinical manifestations including infectious bovine rhinotracheitis (IBR), infectious pustular vulvovaginitis (IPV) / balanopostitis (IPB) and meningoencephalitis [3]. These conditions are...

Detection of caprine herpesvirus 1 in sacral ganglia of latently infected goats by PCR.

A study of the latency of caprine herpesvirus 1 (CpHV.1) was carried out with four latently infected goats. Three goats were treated with dexamethasone and euthanized after 4 and 6 days. PCR and virus isolation allowed us to detect CpHV.1 only in the third and fourth sacral ganglia of the two animals euthanized 6 days after the start of treatment.

A cross-sectional study to identify a set of risk factors for caprine herpesvirus 1 infection

BACKGROUND Caprine herpesvirus 1 (CpHV-1) causes neonatal mortality and reproductive failure in goats. Despite its impact on herd reproductive performance, few studies have investigated the risk factors associated with CpHV-1 infection. The aim of this cross-sectional study was to identify potential herd- and host-level risk factors associated with CpHV-1 prevalence in a goat population with he...
