Abstract:

The goal of this study is investigating reduction of residual stresses from welding carbon steel plates through vibrationstress reliefmethod vs. thermal method. In order to carry out the required experimental tests, carbon steel plates were welded together under specific conditions as samples. Some of the samples were vibration stress relieved, some were thermal stress relieved while the rest remained without any stress relief operation. Several destructive and non-destructive tests were performed on all the stress relieved and non-relieved specimens and the data obtained from these tests were compared in order to reach the optimum vibration effect on stress relieved welded joints. The results attained for vibration method indicated an acceptable amount of reduction of residual stresses in the joints. In addition, some improvements in mechanical properties achieved vibration stress relief method were used.

PCB Thermal Design Improvement Through Thermal Vias

An approach based on design of different experiments for improvement the thermal paths in PCB through thermal vias is offered. An efficient thermal via placed on the PCB decreases the junction temperature of the package. In this paper elaborate study has been done in analyzing the effect of thermal vias and the ways to decrease the junction temperature by given number of computations. Thermal e...

Reprint: Finite Element Modeling of Vibration Stress Relief after Welding

A finite element model was developed to simulate the vibratory stress relief after welding. Both resonant and nonresonant vibrations can relieve residual stresses in welded structures by creating plastic deformation around the weld area. For the non-resonant vibration, the stress reduction strongly depends on the vibration amplitude. For the resonant vibration, the vibration frequency is the ke...

Thermal Vibration of Magnetostrictive Material in Laminated Plates by the GDQ Method

The study of magnetostrictive material in laminated plate under thermal vibration is calculated by using the generalized differential quadrature (GDQ) method. The YNS shear deformation effect is included in the time dependent of displacement field. In the thermoelastic stress-strain relations that containing the linear temperature rise and the magnetostrictive coupling terms with velocity feedb...

Temporal properties of material categorization and material rating: visual vs non-visual material features

Humans can visually recognize material categories of objects, such as glass, stone, and plastic, easily. However, little is known about the kinds of surface quality features that contribute to such material class recognition. In this paper, we examine the relationship between perceptual surface features and material category discrimination performance for pictures of materials, focusing on temp...
