Stress Analysis and Energy Estimation in Cold-Roll Forming Process
author
Abstract:
In this article, stress analysis and energy estimation during cold-roll forming of symmetrical channel sections have been discussed. Geometry of sheet strip is pre-estimated by a shape function. Then longitudinal, transversal and shear strains have been calculated. Using both the Levy-Mises and the Prandtl Reuss equations, and also considering the Bauschinger effect, stress distributions have been obtained. Preestimated geometry can be modified by minimization of deformation energy. Strains and stresses at different points have been represented and predicted strains have been satisfactorily compared with experimental data. Application of the Levy-Mises equations for reducing computational time, presentation of stress distributions including shear stresses, and consideration of the Bauschinger effect are the new concepts of this paper.

full textDetermination of Buckling Limit of Strain in Cold Roll Forming through Finite Element Analysis
In this study, "Buckling Limit of Strain" (B.L.S.) is introduced as one of the most important limiting factors in cold roll forming process. B.L.S. is calculated by the finite element procedure. Then for two particular processes with existing analysis and experimental results, B.L.S. has been determined and evaluated. LUSAS 12.3 is used for finite element analysis. The results show that when bu...

full textInvestigation of the mechanical properties of cold roll welded Brass and IF steelproduced by cold roll bonding process
Cold roll bonding (CRB) is a solid state welding process, where the bonding is established by compressive plastic deformation of the metals. This process is applicable for a large number of materials. In addition, materials that cannot be bonded by traditional fusion-based processesmight be bonded by CRB process. In this research, cold roll welding of brass and IF steel was studied .The effects...
