STREAM CORRIDORS AS INVALUABLE URBAN ELEMENTS: SUGGESTIONS FOR IMPROVEMENT OF PAVEH STREAM

Authors

Abstract:

The study seeks to address the importance of urban stream ecosystems from the perspective of urban ecology, human health and social well-being in the context of urban planning. The case study area is Paveh stream in the City of Paveh. The data from the case study area were gathered from questionnaire, existing scientific and library studies and by conducting interviews with residents and authorities. Once the importance of the biodiversity of the stream had been studied based on the existing ecological data, the social importance of the stream and the linkages between human health, social well-being and the biodiversity of the stream ecosystem were addressed.   Based on the results of the survey and other sources of information, it was discussed that urban stream ecosystems can be rich in biodiversity and function as ecological movement corridors for species .Urban stream corridors can thus be an important part of the urban green infrastructure .Also we can make the weather fine, extend green space, prepare peaceful environment for residents and bring the countryside effects of nature into cities through improvement of stream landscape. Finally, regarding the finding of this study some suggestions and implications are mentioned to improve the quality of the stream.

Urban and Rural MSW Stream Characterization for Separate Collection Improvement

In the new legislation framework enacted by new member countries of the European Union (EU), the characterization of municipal solid waste (MSW) represents an important instrument for local governments and sanitation operators in setting and achieving targets for waste recycling and recovery. This paper presents the results of a study conducted in accordance with the Romanian methodology for do...

Counting Distinct Elements in a Data Stream

We present three algorithms to count the number of distinct elements in a data stream to within a factor of 1 ± ǫ. Our algorithms improve upon known algorithms for this problem, and offer a spectrum of time/space tradeoffs.

Usses – an Urban Stream Stability Expert System

An expert system for analyzing urban stream stability and developing mitigation measures for stream instabilities is developed using principles of the geomorphologic, hydraulic, and hydrologic processes that occur in a stream system and their effects on the system upstream and downstream. The hydrologic and hydraulic aspects of the system that affect flow in the stream and often the sediment lo...

Evaluation of stream sediment contamination by potentially toxic elements around mining and farming areas (SE Nigeria)

In this work, the concentrations of the potentially toxic elements in stream sediments in SE Nigeria were assessed for pollution monitoring in mining, quarrying, and farming areas. The levels of iron, molybdenum, vanadium, copper, lead, zinc, nickel, cobalt, manganese, chromium, barium, and beryllium were determined. The concentrations of the elements were in the order of Fe > Ba > Mn > Cr > Zn...

The Urban Stream Syndrome – a Mini-Review

This paper reviews various impacts of urbanization on rivers and streams, which lead to symptoms summarized by the general term “urban stream syndrome”. Growing areas of impervious surfaces cause deterioration of water recipients flowing through urban areas. The symptoms of deterioration usually include altered chemical parameters of water and sediment, accumulation of priority pollutants in aq...
