Abstract:

Hemangiomas are considered as vascular malformations which are categorized by the type of vascular channel to capillary, cavernous, venous or arteriovenous(1). Their usual locations are soft tissue , cutaneous or subcutaneous tissue and bone especially vertebra(2).However, intradural extramedullary hemangiomas are rare and most of them fall in cavernous type category. Hereby, authors report a woman with spinal intradural extramedullary capillary hemangioma which is exceedingly rare.

Spinal intradural capillary hemangioma: MR findings.

We report a case of a spinal intradural capillary hemangioma. On MR images, a well-circumscribed intradural mass was detected at the T8-T9 level. The signal intensity of the mass relative to the spinal cord was isointense on T1-weighted images, hyperintense on T2-weighted images, and showed homogeneous, strong enhancement on contrast-enhanced T1-weighted images. The mass had both extramedullary...

Spinal intradural extramedullary capillary hemangioma: MR imaging findings.

SUMMARY Spinal intradural extramedullary capillary hemangiomas are extremely rare. We present the MR imaging and histologic findings in three patients with this abnormality. The three patients were men who had symptoms of either myelopathy (n = 2) or radiculopathy (n = 1). The tumors were well demarcated, 1.5-2.0 cm in diameter, and were located at the posterior or posterolateral portion of the...

Bilateral epidural extension of thoracic capillary vertebral (intraosseous) hemangioma mimicking spinal meningioma.

We describe a rare case of vertebra (intraosseous) hemangioma with bilateral and symmetrical epidural extension causing cord compression in a 24-year-old woman. The epidural component was isointense to cord on both T1 and T2 sequences, and enhanced markedly and homogenously following gadolinium administration. The gradual in onset and progressive nature with the typical enhancing pattern lead t...

Thoracic intradural extramedullary capillary hemangioma.

We report a case of a thoracic intradural extramedullary capillary hemangioma. The MR imaging appearance was nonspecific for this lesion, and it could not be distinguished from more common spinal intradural extramedullary lesions. The presence of subtly enlarged abnormal vessels on contrast MR images should, however, lead one to consider a vascular mass and order preoperative spinal arteriography.
