Sperm Retrieval in Patients with Klinefelter Syndrome: A Skewed Regression Model Analysis
Authors
Abstract:
Background The most common chromosomal abnormality due to non-obstructive azoospermia (NOA) is Klinefelter syndrome (KS) which occurs in 1-1.72 out of 500-1000 male infants. The probability of retrieving sperm as the outcome could be asymmetrically different between patients with and without KS, therefore logistic regression analysis is not a well-qualified test for this type of data. This study has been designed to evaluate skewed regression model analysis for data collected from microsurgical testicular sperm extraction (micro-TESE) among azoospermic patients with and without non-mosaic KS syndrome. MaterialsAndMethods This cohort study compared the micro-TESE outcome between 134 men with classic KS and 537 men with NOA and normal karyotype who were referred to Royan Institute between 2009 and 2011. In addition to our main outcome, which was sperm retrieval, we also used logistic and skewed regression analyses to compare the following demographic and hormonal factors: age, level of follicle stimulating hormone (FSH), luteinizing hormone (LH), and testosterone between the two groups. Results A comparison of the micro-TESE between the KS and control groups showed a success rate of 28.4% (38/134) for the KS group and 22.2% (119/537) for the control group. In the KS group, a significantly difference (P

full textSperm retrieval in adolescent males with Klinefelter syndrome: medical and ethical issues.
Transl Pediatr 2016;5(2):104-106 tp.amegroups.com Many men with conditions linked to azoospermia were formerly considered infertile. However, over the last two decades advances in assisted reproductive technology (ART) have been devised and have permitted these men to become biological fathers. Foremost among these have been testicular sperm extraction (TESE) and a “microdissection” advance in ...
full textComparison of In Vitro Fertilization/Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection Cycle Outcome in Patients with and without Polycystic Ovary Syndrome: A Modified Poisson Regression Model
Objective Polycystic ovary syndrome is a frequent condition in women of reproductive age with prevalence rate of 5-10%. This study purposed to determine the relationship between polycystic ovary syndrome and the outcome of assisted reproductive treatment (ART) cycle in Tehran, Iran. MaterialsAndMethods In this historical cohort study, 996 infertile women were included in the study between Janua...
full textCategorical Data Analysis Using a Skewed Weibull Regression Model
In this paper, we present a Weibull link (skewed) model for categorical response data arising from binomial as well as multinomial model. We show that, for such types of categorical data, the most commonly used models (logit, probit and complementary log–log) can be obtained as limiting cases. We further compare the proposed model with some other asymmetrical models. The Bayesian as well as fre...
full textEarly Morphokinetic Monitoring of Embryos after Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection with Fresh Ejaculate Sperm in Nonmosaic Klinefelter Syndrome: A Different Presentation
The patient was diagnosed with nonmosaic 47, XXY Klinefelter Syndrome with the AZF deletion absent and SRY+. The nonmosaic 47, XXY karyotype was confirmed on a skin biopsy chromosomal analysis. Using only ejaculate motile sperms, 11 oocytes underwent ICSI and were placed rapidly in a time lapse (Embryoscope ©) with a specific culture dish. Biopsies were performed on six embryos on the 3rd day, ...
