Solvothermal synthesis of copper nanoparticles loaded on multi-wall carbon nanotubes as catalyst for thermal decomposition of ammonium perchlorate
Authors
Abstract:
Copper nanoparticles were synthesized on multiwall carbon nanotubes, (Cu)/(MWCNTs), based on solvothermal method. The used reagents include MWCNTs, cupric nitrate trihydrate (Cu (NO3)2.3H2O), diethylene glycol (DEG), diethanol amine. Characterization of Cu/MWCNTS nanoparticles was performed by techniques of Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), Raman spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction spectroscopy (XRD), Inductively coupled plasma (ICP), differential scanning calorimeter (DSC), and Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscopy (FE-SEM).The results show that the surface of MWCNTs is covered by Cu nanoparticles, and the diameter of Cu/MWCNTs nanoparticles gets larger than that of MWCNTs. Furthermore, in the presence of Cu/MWCNTs composite particles, the synthesized Cu/MWCNTs showed 95% Cu loaded on the MWCNTs. The results showed that using 3 wt.-% Cu/MWCNTs nano catalyst lowered the decomposition temperature of AP by 121.76 °C. The total enthalpy, for this case, was 1384.46 J g -1. This work indicates that the catalytic performance of Cu/MWCNTs can be improved the thermal decomposition of AP.

The Role of Boron in Thermal Decomposition of Ammonium Perchlorate
Simultaneous thermal analysis (STA) method has been applied to study decomposition reactions of AP under a flowing nitrogen atmosphere and static air. Results obtained indicate that a phase transformation occurs prior to the decomposition reaction. Decomposition takes place exothermally in two stages, first stage of decomposition could be suppressed by the controlled heating programme. Addi...

Reactivity is of great importance for metal nanoparticles used as catalysts, biomaterials and advanced sensors, but seeking for high reactivity seems to be conflict with high chemical stability required for metal nanoparticles. There is a subtle balance between reactivity and stability. This could be reached for colloidal metal nanoparticles using organic capping reagents, whereas it is challen...

Low pressure adsorption of CO2 on multi-wall carbon nanotubes
Volumetric techniques were employed to study the adsorption of CO2 on a purified multi-wall carbon nanotubes (MWNT’s) sample, as a mesoporous material, at isothermal conditions of 288, 293 and 298 K and pressures ranging from 30 to 150 kPa. Langmuir, Freundlich and Sips equations were used to represent the isotherms. Also the parameters of these fitted isotherm models have been determined. The ...
