Solving single facility goal Weber location problem using stochastic optimization methods

Authors

Abstract:

Location theory is one of the most important topics in optimization and operations research. In location problems, the goal is to find the location of one or more facilities in a way such that some criteria such as transportation costs, customer traveling distance, total service time, and cost of servicing are optimized. In this paper, we investigate the goal Weber location problem in which the location of a number of demand points on a plane is given, and the ideal is locating the facility in the distance R_i, from the i-th demand point. However, in most instances, the solution of this problem does not exist. Therefore, the minimizing sum of errors is considered. The goal Weber location problem with the l_p norm is solved using the stochastic version of the LBFGS method, which is a second-order limited memory method for minimizing large-scale problems. According to the obtained numerical results, this algorithm achieves a lower optimal value in less time with comparing to other common and popular stochastic optimization algorithms.

efficient methods for goal square weber location problem

in this paper, we consider a special case of weber location problem which we call goal location problem. the weber location problem asks to find location of a point in the plane such that the sum of weighted distances between this point and n existing points is minimized. in the goal location problem each existing point pi has a relevant radius ri and it’s ideal for us to locate a new facility o...

Solving the Uncapacitated Facility Location Problem Using Message Passing Algorithms

The Uncapacitated Facility Location Problem (UFLP) is one of the most widely studied discrete location problems, whose applications arise in a variety of settings. We tackle the UFLP using probabilistic inference in a graphical model an approach that has received little attention in the past. We show that the fixed points of max-product linear programming (MPLP), a convexified version of the ma...

Solving the uncapacitated facility location problem using tabu search

A tabu search heuristic procedure is developed to solve the uncapacitated facility location problem. Tabu search is used to guide the solution process when evolving from one solution to another. A move is defined to be the opening or closing of a facility. The net cost change resulting from a candidate move is used to measure the attractiveness of the move. After a move is made, the net cost ch...

Solving Facility Location Problem on Cluster Computing

Computation of facility location problem for every location in the country is not easy simultaneously. Solving the problem is described by using cluster computing. A technique is to design parallel algorithm by using local search with single swap method in order to solve that problem on clusters. Parallel implementation is done by the use of portable parallel programming, Message Passing Interf...

Dynamic Facility Location with Stochastic Demand

Determination of facilities, such as factories or warehouses, location and availability conditions is one of the important and strategic decisions for an organization to make. Transportation costs that form a major part of goods price are dependent to this decision making. There are verity of methods have been presented to achieve the optimal locations of these facilities which are generally de...
