Solid Solution in the As2S3-Sb2S3 Series at

Abstract:
Orpiment, getchellite and stibnite from Zarshuran deposit, NW Iran, exhibit extensive As-Sb substitution. There are four known minerals along As2S3-Sb2S3 join, i.e. orpiment (As2S3), Wakabayashilite [(As,Sb)20S30], getchellite (AsSbS3) and stibnite (Sb2S3). Extensive mineralogical studies by scanning electron microscope (SEM) and electron probe micro-analyzer (EPMA) indicate that getchellite from Zarshuran exhibits large As/Sb substitution, compared to the synthetic mineral and occurrences in other deposits, which justifies further experimental studies. Natural orpiment with the highest Sb content was recorded in Zarshuran samples. Considering the possible explanation for the incomplete record of solid solution, it appears that rapid variation in fluid chemistry and variability of As and Sb concentration in the hydrothermal solution may have caused extensive solid solution in the As2S3-Sb2S3 system. The recorded solid solution may indicate that temperatures of gold mineralization were less than 250°C which is supported by fluid inclusion data.

full textToward High‐Efficiency Solution‐Processed Planar Heterojunction Sb2S3 Solar Cells
Low-cost hybrid solar cells have made tremendous steps forward during the past decade owing to the implementation of extremely thin inorganic coatings as absorber layers, typically in combination with organic hole transporters. Using only extremely thin films of these absorbers reduces the requirement of single crystalline high-quality materials and paves the way for low-cost solution processin...
full textMid-infrared characterization of solution-processed As2S3 chalcogenide glass waveguides.
An etch-free and cost-effective deposition and patterning method to fabricate mid-infrared chalcogenide glass waveguides for chemical sensing applications is introduced. As(2)S(3) raised strip optical waveguides are produced by casting a liquid solution of As(2)S(3) glass in capillary channel molds formed by soft lithography. Mid-IR transmission is characterized by coupling the output of a quan...
full textComplex Chiral Induction Processes at the Solution/Solid Interface
Two-dimensional supramolecular chirality is often achieved by confining molecules against a solid surface. The sergeants-soldiers principle is a popular strategy to fabricate chiral surfaces using predominantly achiral molecules. In this method, achiral molecules (the soldiers) are forced to assemble in a chiral fashion by mixing them with a small percentage of structurally similar chiral molec...

The monoclinic silicates Lu2SiO5 and Sc2SiO5 (Y2SiO5 type, space groupC2/c) form a solid solution Lu2−xScxSiO5. Samples with x = 0.5, 0.8, 1.0 were synthesized ceramically from Lu2O3, Sc2O3, and SiO2. The structures of three crystals with x = 0.88, 0.77, and 0.50 were refined on the basis of single-crystal X-ray diffraction data. The rare earth (RE) atoms occupy two crystallographically differe...
