Abstract:

The aim of the present study was to investigate the sleep promoting effect of BR-16A, a polyherbal formulation along with GABAergic drugs. Pentobarbitone-induced hypnosis test was used as an animal model to explore its role in sleep. Pentobarbitone produces quick the sleep latency (onset) and prolongation of total sleep time (duration). Seep latency and total sleep time were used as parameters for the evaluation. BR-16A potentiated the effect of triazolam (0.1 mg/kg, ip) and alprazolam (0.25 mg/kg, ip). Melatonin (5.0 mg/kg, i.p.) and zolpidem (0.5 mg/kg, i.p.) did not produce any significant effect on sleep parameters (P

Protective effect of BR-16A, a polyherbal preparation against social isolation stress: possible GABAergic mechanism.

The antistress effects of BR-16A, a polyherbal preparation and its interaction with GABAergic modulators against social isolation-induced stress were investigated in the present study. Isolation stress was induced by keeping the mice (Laca strain) individually in each cage for 3 weeks and various drug treatments were given for a period of 5 days before the start of the experiments. The various ...

BR-16A restricts development of electroconvulsive shock-induced retrograde amnesia.

Forty nine adult male Sprague Dawley rats were selected for rapid learning in a T-maze to study the effects of BR-16A, a herbal preparation on ECS-induced retrograde amnesia. Half the rats received 200 mg/kg BR-16A and the other half received vehicle alone. The rats were trained to run into the enclosed chamber of either the left or the right arm on a T-maze; a food pellet served as a reward in...

BR-16A protects against ECS-induced anterograde amnesia.

BR-16A is an herbal (non allopathic) medication used in India to enhance cognition. In experiment 1, 28 Wistar rats received either BR-16A (200 mg/kg/day) or vehicle alone for 3 weeks. During the third week, the rats were tested for learning in the Hebb Williams complex maze. BR-16A-treated rats showed significantly better learning than did controls. Experiment 2 was conducted identically excep...

BR-16A Enhances Learning in Sprague – Dawley Rats

BR-16A is a herbal (non-allopathic) medication used in India to enhance cognition in this study. Wistar rats (n=24) received either BR-16A (200 mg/kg/day) or vehicle alone for 3 weeks. Over 4 consecutive days during the third week, the rats were tested for learning in the Hebb Williams complex maze. BR-16A treated rats showed significant learning while controls did not. It is concluded that BR-...
