Simulation of artificial earthquake records using Point Source method with applying amplification effects
Authors
Abstract:
Today to design large hydraulic structures like dams, application of dynamic analysis in time domain seems very interesting due to its benefits. For applying such analysis, appropriate earthquake records that are compatible to site conditions are necessary for designer. Such information is rarely recorded for a dam site during an earthquake and usually the amount of recorded data is not sufficient for a non-uniform analysis. In this study using … stochastic vibration method, artificial earthquake records compatible to site conditions are generated and effects of distance from source and corner frequency is investigated. It is shown that increasing in corner frequency, caused to complicating simulated acceleration pattern and also the magnitude of maximum acceleration is increased. It is shown that increasing in distance caused in decreasing amplification effects at site. With increasing distance over 100 kilometers the amount of maximum acceleration is approached to each other in two conditions (with and without amplification effects) so we can ignore the effects of amplification. But in closer distances the combination of site amplification effect and distance parameters and the path have significant effect on earthquake records.

GENERATION OF SYNTHETIC EARTHQUAKE RECORDS BY ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE TECHNIQUES
For seismic resistant design of critical structures, a dynamic analysis, based on either response spectrum or time history is frequently required. Due to the lack of recorded data and randomness of earthquake ground motion that might be experienced by the structure under probable future earthquakes, it is usually difficult to obtain recorded data which fit the necessary parameters (e.g. soil ty...

TOPOLOGY OPTIMIZATION OF 2D BUILDING FRAMES UNDER ARTIFICIAL EARTHQUAKE GROUND MOTIONS USING POLYGONAL FINITE ELEMENT METHOD
In this article, topology optimization of two-dimensional (2D) building frames subjected to seismic loading is performed using the polygonal finite element method. Artificial ground motion accelerograms compatible with the design response spectrum of ASCE 7-16 are generated for the response history dynamic analysis needed in the optimization. The mean compliance of structure is minimized as a t...

The most important part of neutron therapy treatment (NCT1) is to achieve a beam of neutrons with suitable energy and intensity, as well as the least pollution and damage. In this study, in order to correct the neutron spectrum from D-D fusion and its use in neutron therapy, a set of different materials which are called the Beam Shaping Assembly (BSA) was placed in the direction of energy 2.45 ...
full textSchwarz method for earthquake source dynamics
Dynamic faulting under slip-dependent friction in a linear elastic domain (in-plane and 3D configurations) is considered. The use of an implicit time-stepping scheme (Newmark method) allows much larger values of the time step than the critical CFL time step, and higher accuracy to handle the non-smoothness of the interface constitutive law (slip weakening friction). The finite element form of t...
full textUsing Finite Point Method for the Numerical Simulation of Heat Transfer Coupled with Microsegregation during Continuous Casting
In the present work, a meshless method called Finite Point Method (FPM) is developed to simulate the solidification process of a continuously cast steel bloom in both primary and secondary cooling regions. The method is based on the use of a weighted least-square interpolation procedure. A transverse slice of the bloom moving at casting speed is considered as the computational domain and two di...
