Serum Endostatin Levels in Oral Squamous Cell Carcinoma
Authors
Abstract:
Introduction: Endostatin is a C-terminal proteolytic fragment of collagen XVIII and, as with angiostatin and thrombospondin, is known as an antiangiogenic agent. The aim of this study was to assess the level of serum endostatin in patients with oral squamous cell carcinoma (SCC), and its association with the clinicopathological characteristics of the tumor. Materials and Methods: Using an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) kit, we investigated the circulating levels of endostatin in the blood serum of 45 patients with oral SCC and 45 healthy controls. Results: The mean level of serum endostatin in patients was significantly lower (68.8±85 ng/ml) than in healthy controls (175.6±73 ng/ml) (P

Serum Level of Interleukin-6 in Patients with Oral Tongue Squamous cell Carcinoma
Introduction: The clinical outcome of patients with squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) located in the head and neck has remained poor despite ongoing advances in diagnosis and management. Interleukin-6(IL-6) is a multi-functional cytokine that plays an important role in the process of cell differentiation and is increased in several malignancies. The aim of this study was to investigate the serum le...
full textAnalysis of Serum Cytokine Levels in Larynx Squamous Cell Carcinoma and Dysplasia Patients
Background: Although the imbalance of cytokines in Head and Neck Squamous Cell Carcinoma (HNSCC) is well known, there is scarce data regarding its occurrence during dysplasia, before the malignant transformation. Objective: To determine whether laryngeal dysplasia patients show a different cytokine profile than patients with cancer and healthy controls. Methods: Seventeen newly diagnosed, untre...
full textImmunohistochemical Evaluation of Fascin in Oral Squamous Cell Carcinoma
Background and purpose: Squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) is the eighth most common cancer in men and the fifteenth in women. Localized recurrence and metastasis to regional lymph nodes are major problems in these patients. Fascin is a 55- kDa protein from the family of actin-binding proteins that is expressed in cells with membranous bronchial tubes. The aim of this study was to evaluate the expre...
full textSalivary Antioxidant Level in Oral Squamous Cell Carcinoma
Background: Oral cancer is among the 10 most common cancers worldwide with an increasing global incidence. Compromised antioxidant defense system plays a role in occurrence of cancer. This study evaluated the salivary antioxidant level of oral cancer patients compared to a control group. Patients and Methods: This case-control study was conducted on 22 oral squamous cell carcinoma patients pre...
full textSerum and saliva collagenase-3 (MMP-13) in patients with oral lichen planus and oral squamous cell carcinoma
Background: Oral lichen planus (OLP) has been classified as a pre-malignant condition. Matrix metalloproteinase-13 (MMP-13) or collagenase-3 may play a key role in cancer development. The aim of this study was to compare serum and saliva MMP-13 between patients with oral lichen planus (OLP) and oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC). Methods : This cross sectional study was performed on 30 pat...
full textSerum Glutathione Levels in Oral Leukoplakia and Oral Squamous Cell Carcinoma- A Clinicopathological Study
Oral cancer accounts for the majority of the cancer in South East Asian region and especially in the Indian subcontinent. If diagnosed at an early stage the disease is reported to have a better prognosis. Recently studies have been conducted to determine the levels of serum antioxidants for risk assessment of oral cancer. The aim of this study was to estimate the levels of glutathione in serum ...
