Serum anti-oxidation enzymes response to L-Carnitine supplementation females basketball players

Authors: not saved
Abstract:

Supplementation has beneficial effects in immune system and can antioxidant enzymes activity increases during the exercise and protects the tissue against the oxidative stress. L-Carnitine is a famous Supplement and helps to protect against the oxidative stress during and after intense or prolonged exercise. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of L-Carnitine supplementation on the blood anti-oxidation enzymes (GPX SOD, CAT and GR) response. In this semi experimental study, 20 basketball players participated. They randomly divided into two groups of supplementation and placebo respectively. Superoxide Dismutase (SOD), Catalase, Glutathione Reductase (GR) and Glutathione Peroxidase (GPX) evaluated. Supplementation groups intake 3000 mg on the day for 2 weeks. Then 2 groups participate in Basketball acute training. The data analyzed using SPSS- 20 and repeated measure ANOVA, Bonferroni and independent t-test at (α≤0.05). Our findings showed a significant increase in SOD, GPX and GPX (P<0.05) .Based on the finding of this study, we can say that if females basketball players use L-Carnitine, this may increase their enzymes anti- oxidant .Our results suggest that the increased basal anti oxidative capacity (GPX SOD, CAT and GR) following L-Carnitine supplementation can increase the undesirable alterations of exercise-induced oxidative damage in active females.

Introduction: Antioxidant enzymes protect cells against reactive oxygen species. This study investigated the effects of Curcumin and L-Carnitine supplementation on antioxidant enzymes in the body of basketball players after an acute bout of exercise. Methods: 30 female basketball players participated in this quasi-experimental study. After obtaining written consents, the participants were rand...

The Effects of Black Mulberry Supplementation on Plasma Interleukin-6 and Tumour Necrosis Factor-α Response to One Session Basketball Training in Female Basketball Players

Background and Objectives: This study aimed to evaluate the impact of mulberry supplementation on two pro-inflammatory markers response, Rate of Perceived Exertion (RPE) and performance after a session of strenuous exercise. Black Mulberry is a fruit rich in flavonoids and anthocyanins which have been proved to act as antioxidants in body. Materials and Methods: Fifteen female basketball playe...

l-Carnitine Supplementation in Recovery after Exercise

Given its pivotal role in fatty acid oxidation and energy metabolism, l-carnitine has been investigated as ergogenic aid for enhancing exercise capacity in the healthy athletic population. Early research indicates its beneficial effects on acute physical performance, such as increased maximum oxygen consumption and higher power output. Later studies point to the positive impact of dietary suppl...

Supplementation of L-carnitine in athletes: does it make sense?

Studies in athletes have shown that carnitine supplementation may foster exercise performance. As reported in the majority of studies, an increase in maximal oxygen consumption and a lowering of the respiratory quotient indicate that dietary carnitine has the potential to stimulate lipid metabolism. Treatment with L-carnitine also has been shown to induce a significant postexercise decrease in ...
