Sequential calculation of torque in procedure of twin screw extrusion

Authors

Abstract:

The drug making resreach has accentuated on extrusion technology for a long time. The advance of drug bioavailibility, bead manufacturing and granulation is assured by extrusion procedures. There are also diverse effects in resereches with respect to the use of process understanging as a tool in quality management. Many initiatives of FDA such as PAT and QBD are getting accepted. In this survey a corotating twin-screw extruder was facilitated with a torque gauge as a tool to monitor the process. The experimental arrangements were qualified based on the ICH instructions. The extrusion torque has a relation with the water content in a wet extrusion process. Besides, a process of pelletisation was done utilizing various formulations in wet spheronization. There found the relationship between the torque on the screws and the form of the pellet. In a nutshell, the torque proved to be a very good extrusion criteria for monitoring processes of wet extrusion

Twin Screw Extrusion of Aluminized Thermobaric Explosives

The manufacturing of advanced explosives containing large amounts of metal powders to improve performance, such as PAX-3, have proven difficult to transition into production. Current manufacturing processes have had low yield which results in a high cost per unit and questionable product uniformity. Over the past year the Twin Screw Extruder (TSE) Team has been investigating the use of a TSE ma...

Mesh immersion technique for 3D moving domain calculation and applications to twin-screw extrusion and mixing

This work is concerned with the development of numerical techniques devoted to the simulation of the flow of a polymer melt in mixing processes such as twin-screw extrusion. In mixing or twin extrusion process simulation, the absence of symmetry of the moving boundaries (the screws) implies that their rigid body motion has to be taken into account by using a special treatment. In this study, we...

Properties of Polypropylene Composites Fabricated Using Twin-screw Extrusion

Sunflower hull sanding dust (SHSD) filled polypropylene (PP) composite was prepared using a twin-screw extruder. Mechanical and thermal properties of the SHSD/PP composite were characterized contrasting to organically modified clay /PP composite. Differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) analysis showed that the crystallization temperature and the degree of crystallinity of PP exhibited changes w...

Alkaline twin-screw extrusion pretreatment for fermentable sugar production

BACKGROUND The inevitable depletion of fossil fuels has resulted in an increasing worldwide interest in exploring alternative and sustainable energy sources. Lignocellulose, which is the most abundant biomass on earth, is widely regarded as a promising raw material to produce fuel ethanol. Pretreatment is an essential step to disrupt the recalcitrance of lignocellulosic matrix for enzymatic sac...

Hybrid algorithms for the twin-screw extrusion configuration problem

The twin-screw configuration problem (TSCP) arises in the context of polymer processing, where twinscrew extruders are used to prepare polymer blends, compounds or composites. The goal of the TSCP is to define the configuration of a screw from a given set of screw elements. The TSCP can be seen as a sequencing problem as the order of the screw elements on the screw axis has to be defined. It is...
