Abstract:

Objective(s): Herbal medicines are promising cancer preventive candidates. It has been shown that Punica granatum L. could inhibit angiogenesis and tumor invasion. In this study, we investigated whether the anti-angiogenic effect of pomegranate peel extract (PPE) is partly attributable to Peroxisome proliferator-activated receptors (PPARs) activation in the Human Umbilical Vein Endothelial Cells (HUVECs). Materials and Methods: Ethanol extract from PPE was prepared. HUVECs were treated in four groups (with PPE (10 μg/ml) alone, PPE with or without PPARγ (T0070907) and α (GW6471) antagonists, and control group). The possible effect of PPARs on angiogenic regulation was checked by Matrigel assay. The mRNA expression levels of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) was detected by Quantitative reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (QRT-PCR).  Results: PPE significantly inhibited both tube formation (size, length, and junction of tubes) and VEGF mRNA expression (P

Peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor gamma in osteoarthritis.

Osteoarthritis (OA) is among the most prevalent chronic human health disorders and the most common form of arthritis. It is a leading cause of disability in developed countries. This disease is characterized by cartilage deterioration, synovitis, and remodeling of the subchondral bone. There is not yet a satisfactory treatment to stop or arrest this disease process. Although several candidates ...

The Role of Peroxisome Proliferator Activator Receptor Alpha in Cerebral Ischemia-Reperfusion Injury; a Review Study

Peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor alpha (PPAR-α), which belongs to the nuclear receptor family of ligand-activated transcription factors, was first described as gene regulators for metabolic pathways including lipid metabolism, insulin sensitivity, and glucose homeostasis. Were raised. This nuclear receptor is widely expressed in various tissues, providing a wide range of effects to st...

PPARG ( peroxisome proliferator - activated receptor gamma )

Note: The PPAR gamma gene, a member of the peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor (PPAR) subfamily of nuclear hormone receptors, is implicated in adipocyte differentiation and function. In order to regulate the transcription of target genes, the PPAR protein needs to form heterodimers with retinoid X receptors (RXRs). Three splice variants of PPAR gamma are known: PPAR gamma1, PPAR gamma2, ...
