RC Slabs Retrofitting Against Blast Loading by GFRP-PU and CFRP-PU
Authors
Abstract:
For reducing the structural damage against blast loading, fiber reinforced polymers sheet (CFRP, GFRP) can be used for retrofitting the RC slabs. In this study specimens of reinforced concrete slabs with or without retrofitting are modeled numerically. The results show that the using of high resistant, elastic material such as FRP sheets, are effective in reducing the deformation of the slabs, but it doesn’t significantly increase the energy absorption capacity of the structure. Using Polyurea (PU) coating with elastoplastic behavior on the FRP sheets, in addition to reduce deformation, it will increase the absorption of energy up to 40 percent. In this combination, layer arrangement is important matter, so that if the PU coating positioned on the concrete then the hard sheets are placed, its efficiency will be reduced by 30% compared the previous one. When the reinforcement element placed in front of the slab, it will increase the energy absorption up to 50 percent compared to the placing in the back of the slab. It has been shown in this study that it is not advisable to use PU alone and it should be used with stiffeners for better results.

Plutonium isotopes 238 Pu , 239 + 240 Pu and 241 Pu in the Baltic Sea ecosystem
Wet and dry atmospheric fallout from nuclear weapon tests is one of the most important sources of plutonium in the Baltic Sea. The other sources: plutonium releases from spent fuel facilities in Sellafield (UK) and Cap de la Hague (France) are less important. Since 26 April 1986 it has been a new source of plutonium – Chernobyl plutonium, which should be taken under note in estimation of its ra...

Plutonium (Pu) adsorption to and desorption from mineral phases plays a key role in controlling the environmental mobility of Pu. Here we assess whether the adsorption behavior of Pu at concentrations used in typical laboratory studies (≥10(-10) [Pu] ≤ 10(-6) M) are representative of adsorption behavior at concentrations measured in natural subsurface waters (generally <10(-12) M). Pu(V) sorpti...
full textStrengthening of RC Slabs with Symmetric Openings Using GFRP Composite Beams
This paper describes the results of experimental testing of glass fiber reinforced plastic (GFRP) composite beam strengthened reinforced concrete (RC) slabs with two symmetrical openings. Specimens, one-half scale, have been designed and fabricated to reflect the most common RC bathroom slab used in school buildings. The specimen had dimensions of 2000 mm (width) × 150 mm (thickness) × 3000 mm ...

For analysis of the products formed in the volatile phase, 11 mg of bovine pulp tissue were placed in contact with 0.5%, 2.5% and 5.25% NaOCl until complete tissue dissolution occurred. The solid phase microextraction (SPME) fiber was exposed inside the container through the cover membrane and immediately inje...
full textNon-Linear Finite Element Analysis of RC Slabs Strengthened with CFRP Laminates
The present study deals with the finite element modelling of control RC slabs and strengthened slabs with the help of ANSYS. ANSYS is software that is based on FE method in which modelling of RC structures is done. In this study, a control slab was modelled and the results were analysed and then strengthened slabs were modelled and analysed. The results of the control and strengthened slabs wer...
