Reproductive biology of Yellowfin Seabream Acanthopagrus latus in coastal waters of Hormozgan
Authors
Abstract:
Some reproductive biology features of Yellowfin Seabream Acanthopagrusl atus including gonadosomatic index, hepatosomatic index, sex ratio, macroscopic and microscopic survey of gonad development, frequency of different maturationstages and absolute and relative fecundity were investigated. Thirty fish per month were sampled during September 2011 to August 2012 in coastal waters of Hormozgan province. The most frequent maturation stage at 4 was in March and April and the highest gonadosomatic index was in April with 7.48 and the lowest value was in August with 0.28. The trend of gonadosomatic index indicated that the spawning season ranges from January to the end of Aprilwith the peak in April and in a batch spawning mechanism. Hepatosomatic index revealed a significant increasing trend from December and reached to the peak in March and April. Considering the sex reversing of male to female in this species, it was confirmed that they are protandric hermaphrodite. Sex ratio showed the value of 2.7 which indicates a significant difference between the number of males and females (P< 0.05). Maximum and minimum values of absolute fecundity were estimated 2530780 and 1431520 eggs, respectively. The highest and least amounts of relative fecundity were 3778 and 2373 eggs, respectively with maximum and minimum total length and weight of 37.2 and 21.4 cm and 965.5 and 378.9 gr, respectively.

Determination of heavy metals in Acanthopagrus latus (Yellowfin seabream) from the Bushehr seaport (coastal of Persian Gulf), Iran
In this study, bioaccumulation of lead, copper, cadmium, zinc and mercury in gill, liver and muscle of Acanthopagrus latus (Yellowfin seabream) was quantified. The concentrations of heavy metals were determined by using differential pulse anodic stripping voltammetry (DPASV) after wet digestion method. The result comprise of concentration level of Cu2+, Cd2+, Zn2+, Pb2+ and Hg2+ in ten differen...
full textAssessment of Skin Pathological Responses in the Yellowfin Seabream (Acanthopagrus latus) under the Aeromonas hydrophila Exposure
Background: Bacterial diseases in cultured fish are considered the main problem to aquaculture system. Skin is the structure that covers the body in fish. Skin histopatological alterations were used to assess the effects of Aeromonas hydrophila exposure on the yellowfin seabream )Acanthopagrus latus(. Methods: In this regard, 90 A. latus were exposed to sublethal concentrations of A. hydrophil...

In the present study, Mercury (Hg) accumulation in different tissues of Yellowfin seabream under different Hg concentrations in the medium were investigated. For this, PurPuse 45 fish specimen of the same size (19.2±1.8cm and 134.0±36.1 g) were caught from Musa Estuary, in northwest of the Persian Gulf and transferred to the laboratory. Fish were divided into five different groups of 9 fish ...

Feeding habits of yellowfin seabream, Acanthopagrus latus was investigated in coastal waters of the Northern Persian Gulf. This investigation was conducted by monthly sampling of thirty fish from September 2011 through August 2012. Fish size ranged from 17.98 ± 2.07 to 32.31 ± 6.52 cm in total length and from 134.01 ± 45.62 to 720.46 ± 292.58 g in weight. The highest value of gastro-somatic ind...

Monthly samples of Acanthopagrus latus (Hottuyn, 1782) were used to determine (1) feeding habits and (2) reproduction characteristics of the species in relation to its size, spawning season and sex in the Northern part of the Persian Gulf from January to December 2013. The smaller length classes of all samples were dominated by male fish. All gonads examined, were ovotestis during the spawning ...
