Abstract:

The present work has been carried out to investigate the removal efficiency of active oxygen, produced by using APGP cold plasma sterilizer, on the heavy metals of Hg, Pb and Total Suspended Solids in discharge wastewater of Shif shrimp culture complex and Persian Gulf SPF shrimp research center in Bushehr province. The maximum of removal efficiency for Hg and Pb were 66% and 74%, respectively, in 10 ppm samples. The removal efficiency for Hg and Pb in pilot phase in all studied samples were 100%. The maximum of removal efficiency for TSS was 76.3% in Persian Gulf SPF shrimp research center wastewater. The removal optimum time for all studied parameters was one hour. The results of variance analysis showed a negative and significant relationships between active oxygen and the concentrations of Hg, Pb and TSS (p-values <0.05). The concentrations of Hg, Pb and TSS in the treated wastewaters with active oxygen were less than the Iranian Environmental Protection Organization (IEPO) regulations for discharge limit into surface water.

Removal of Heavy Metals from Industrial Wastewater Using Rice Husks

Heavy metals are widely used in textile industries and significant losses occur during the manufacture and processing of textiles, and these lost heavy metals are discharged in the effluent. Adsorption of heavy metals is a new technology for treatment of wastewater containing different types of selected heavy metals. In this study, adsorbents Carbonized Rice Husk (CRH) and Activated Rice Husk (...

Removal of Heavy Metals from Wastewater Using Cow Bone Charcoal

Bone charcoal, a mixed adsorbent containing around 10% carbon and 90% calcium phosphate, is mainly produced by thermal treatment of bones. Structurally, calcium phosphate in bone charcoal is in the hydroxyapatite form [1-2]. Traditionally, bone charcoal has been used to remove color in sugar solutions in the sugar refining industry. Recent studies use bone charcoal to adsorb radioisotopes of an...

Adsorption Study of Heavy Metals ‎Removal from Wastewater Using PVA- ‎Nano Ferrite Composites

The aim of the present investigation is to synthesize Barium ferrite and Nickel ferrite Nanoparticles by co-precipitation method and these nanoparticles are used to prepare nanocomposites with poly vinyl alcohol (PVA). The composited nanoparticles are characterized by using FTIR, XRD and SEM. The synthesized nanoparticles are used as adsorbent to remove the heavy metals such as Cu2+...

Electrokinetic enhancement removal of heavy metals from industrial wastewater sludge.

An enhanced electrokinetic process for removal of metals (Cr, Cu, Fe, Ni, Pb, Zn) from an industrial wastewater sludge was performed. The electrokinetic experiments were conducted under a constant potential gradient (1.25 V cm(-1)) with processing fluids of tap water (TW), sodium dodecylsulfate (SDS) and citric acid (CA) for 5 days. Results showed that metal removal efficiency of heavy metals f...

Performance of Membrane Bioreactor in Removal of Heavy Metals from Industrial Wastewater

Membrane technology is one of the few non-pollutant choices when selecting a treatment process. A membrane with suitable pore size can remove almost all pollutants without using any chemicals. In this research, chromium, zinc and lead were removed from synthetic wastewater by a membrane bioreactor. The results showed that by using a membrane bioreactor, the COD removal efficiency was increased ...
